Blitz 5 Top 25: Elder back on top

In an epic GCL South battle last week Elder knocked off top-ranked St. Xavier to regain control of the #1 position in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com. The Panthers staved off a 21-point, fourth quarter explosion by the Bombers to capture the road victory. Elder has now sat atop these rankings for five of the seven weeks this season.

Despite five losses from the 24 ranked teams that played last weekend, no one drops out of the poll. Conner was this week’s biggest mover rising six spots to #19 after knocking off Highlands for its fifth straight win.

Here are some fun facts about the ranked teams:

  • Harrison has not given up more than 10 points in a game.
  • Covington Catholic has four shutouts with 38 of its 47 points allowed this season coming in Week 2 against Lexington Catholic.
  • Wyoming has three shutouts and allowed just seven points in each of its other three tilts.
  • East Central gave up 12 first half points to Lawrenceburg in the opener, the Trojans have held their foes to a grand total of 20 points in the 26 quarters since.
  • Ross has thrown the ball just four times while running it 293 times.
  • Staying undefeated will be tough for La Salle. The Lancers final four opponents are a combined 21-4.
  • Unbeaten Fairfield has three wins by seven points or less.
