Blitz 5 Top 25: Teams standing pat

Only five teams in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com lost last weekend and they all fell to schools that were above them in the rankings. That means there was very miniscule movement in this week’s poll. Don’t expect that to happen again after this Friday night. There are eight matchups between ranked teams that include 13 of the top 16 squads in the poll.

Rivalries highlight the schedule with the always thrilling Elder/Winton Woods clash. There is GCL South bout with St. Xavier hosting La Salle. The battle for East Side pride has Anderson at Turpin. Lakota bragging rights are at stake as East meets West in a GMC showdown. Covington Catholic looks to take out Highlands for a fifth straight time in the Bluegrass State’s best Class 5A regular-season game every year.

According to JoeEitel.com, Fairfield is the only ranked team that his clinched a playoff spot. There is still much to be settled. Several teams have gauntlets to run through as the regular season comes to an end.

La Salle finishes with St. Xavier, Winton Woods and Elder, who are a combined 17-4. Highlands ends with Covington Catholic and Cooper, who are a combined 15-1. Winton Woods has Elder and La Salle, who are a combined 12-2.
