2020 TSF Dayton OPOY Finalists
- Updated: January 20, 2021
For a third straight season, there is a fresh set of finalists for the TriState Football Dayton Offensive Player of the Year. The eight finalists are from four different conferences, including five seniors and three juniors. This is the 12th year in which TSF has nominated Dayton OPOY finalists. The award has gone to a player from the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) in five of the last six seasons.
Here are the finalists for the 2020 TSF Dayton OPOY:
Markus Allen (Northmont), Sr, WR – A threat to score every time he touched the ball. In eight games, Allen had 60 receptions for 884 yards and 14 touchdowns. That earned him 2020 OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio and First Team All-TSF honors while helping the Thunderbolts to their first undefeated season in four decades. In two years at Northmont, Allen had 111 receptions for 1,971 yards and 29 touchdowns. He has signed with Wisconsin.
Titan Case (Springboro), Sr, WR – Get the ball into Case’s hands as many ways as possible was one of Springboro’s top priorities last fall. That strategy paid off. Case racked up 1,012 all-purpose yards (512 rec, 214 rush, 286 KRs) on 87 touches, had 44 receptions with 13 touchdowns (seven rec, six rush) and recorded 46 total tackles on defense. He was named 2020 OPSWA Division I Third Team All-Ohio and Second Team All-TSF for his efforts. Case finished his career with 103 receptions for 1,278 yards, 20 touchdowns (14 rec, six rush), registered 107 total tackles and had five takeaways (three FRs, two INTs). He has signed with Navy.
Ca’Ron Coleman (Piqua), Sr, RB – A two-way standout, Coleman stats weren’t overwhelming but his on-field presence was. He gained 592 yards with 11 touchdowns on the ground, as well as tallying 43 total tackles with two sacks, four forced fumbles and three takeaways (two INTs, one FR) as a senior. That effort saw Coleman be named 2020 OPSWA Division II Second Team All-Ohio, Honorable Mention All-TSF (ATH) and MVL Offensive Player of the Year. He finished his career with 1,962 all-purpose yards, 1,707 yards with 24 touchdowns rushing, 123 total tackles, three sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four interceptions. Coleman has signed with Dayton.
Branden McDonald (Alter), Sr, RB – The focal point of the Knights offense, who helped the school to its 12th Regional title. McDonald ran for 1,715 yards and 21 touchdowns on his way to being named 2020 OPSWA Division III First Team All-Ohio, OPSWA First Team All-Southwest District (for a second straight season), Second Team All-TSF and the GCL Co-eds Co-Offensive Player of the Year. He finished his career as Alter’s all-time leading rusher with 4,453 yards and found the end zone 47 times (46 rush). McDonald has offers that include Ball State, Bowling Green, Kent State, Liberty, Miami (OH), Ohio and Toledo.
Kenyon Owens (Chaminade Julienne), Jr, WR/RS – Stole the show as a return man and a receiver for the Eagles. Owens amassed 1,170 all-purpose yards (583 KR/PRYs, 514 ReYds), had 32 receptions, averaged 29.2 on 16 kickoff returns, averaged 11.6 yards on 10 punt returns with three kickoff returns, one punt return and two catches for touchdowns on just 75 touches. Cade Rice (Northmont), Sr, QB – Had no problem adjusting to Division I football after spending three years being a stud at Division V Greenon. Rice threw for 2,128 yards, tossed 30 touchdown passes, ran for 344 yards and two more scores helping Northmont (8-0) to its first undefeated season since 1980. He earned 2020 OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Ohio (was First Team-All Ohio at Greenon in 2019), 2020 OPSWA Division I First Team All-Southwest District (also did it at Greenon in ’19 & ‘18) and Honorable Mention All-TSF accolades. In four years as a varsity starter Rice threw for 7,538 yards with 88 touchdown passes, had another 2,298 yards rushing and 27 scores on the ground. He has signed with South Dakota State.

That effort led to 2020 OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio, Third Team All-TSF and GWOC Offensive Player of the Year honors. Smoot, who has offers from Kentucky, Toledo and Bowling Green heads into his senior campaign with 4,829 yards passing, 816 yards rushing, 46 touchdown passes and 15 rushing scores.
