Fairfield upsets Hamilton
- Updated: September 24, 2021
FAIRFIELD, Ohio– Friday night’s Greater Miami Conference schedule featured exciting match-ups pitting several teams in the Blitz5 Top 25 against each other, including a big win for the No. 17 Fairfield Indians knocking off No. 16 Hamilton Big Blue 28-14.
The Indians decided early on to be aggressive on offense. On the first drive, Fairfield went for it on fourth down, converting the first time on a Talon Fisher run. However, the drive stalled when Fisher’s pass fell incomplete.
Fairfield eventually found the end zone when Juseters Fataki scampered into the end zone for a nine-yard scoring run. A two-point conversion, however, failed, only giving the Indians a 6-0 lead.
The Indians’ Kavi Bivins extended the Fairfield lead on a three-yard rushing score of his own.
Hamilton looked for some momentum with about five minutes left in the second quarter by going for it on fourth-and-goal, however the pass fell incomplete.
The next Big Blue possession ended when Fairfield’s Josiah Jackson picked off Hamilton quarterback Kerry Ware and returned it 67 yards to the Hamilton 15-yard line with eight seconds left in the quarter. The drive and half ended without points after quarterback Talon Fisher was picked off in the end zone.
Big Blue finally got on the board on their first possession of the second half when Elijah Givens found Kerry Ware for a 55-yard scoring strike to cut the deficit 13-7 in favor of Fairfield.
Talon Fisher responded quickly with a 19-yard quarterback keeper score to extend the Indians’ lead back to 13. However, Hamilton responded again by way of a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ware to Breeon Ishmail.
Bivins found the end zone again in the fourth quarter to give the Indians a lead they wouldn’t lose at 28-14.
Despite not finding the end zone, Jordan Jackson led the Indians in rushing with 15 carries for 135 yards. Fisher rushed 12 times for 80 yards.
The GMC gauntlet will continue for the Indians (2-3) next week when they travel to West Chester to play the Lakota West. Hamilton (1-3) will also hit the road to take on Oak Hills.
