Lakota West shuts out Princeton
- Updated: September 10, 2021
WEST CHESTER, Ohio – The Lakota West Firebirds continued their offensive dominance into Week 4 of the 2021 season, knocking off Greater Miami Conference foe Princeton 24-0 on Friday night.
Lakota West came into the game ranked No. 2 in the Blitz5 Top 25 while Princeton rolled into West Chester at No. 3 in the rankings.
Kicker Tyler Bohn got the Firebirds on the board first after their drive stalled on the Viking 20-yard line, forcing the 37-yard field goal early in the first quarter.
Quarterback Mitch Bolden came back onto the field in the next drive looking for points. He found six of them on a 41-yard quarterback keeper to the end zone, putting Lakota West up 10-0 early.
The Lakota West defense came up big to kick off the second quarter. Viking quarterback TJ Engleman was picked off by Joshua Fussel, who returned it to the Princeton 38 yard-line. Bolden took advantage of the turnover, finding Cameron Goode for a 16-yard touchdown pass to extend the Firebirds’ lead to 17.
However, a 17-point lead in the first half wasn’t enough for the Firebirds. Just moments before the horn sounded in the second quarter, Bolden connected with Jyaire Brown for an 11-yard score, taking the 24-0 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all defense for both teams. Lakota West had two touchdowns late in the third quarter called back due to penalties. Bohn missed a 32-yard field goal attempt to add points for the Firebirds.
With a final score of 24-0, Princeton was shutout for the first time since a 14-0 loss to Mason in 2017.
According to the Lakota West athletic department, the win marked Tom Bolden’s 150th career win in his 16th season at two different schools (Lakota West and Colerain).
