Dayton Round-Up: Springfield “D” Stingy Again

SPRINGBORO, oh – It was another stellar performance by the Springfield defense. The Wildcats went on the road and smothered Springboro for their third straight shutout. Springfield hasn’t been scored upon in 14 quarters. They are holding foes to just 6.7 points per game.
The Wildcats defense has been special over the last three weeks. They have allowed just 55.0 (30.3 rush, 24.7 pass) yards per contest and 1.15 yards per carry. For the season Springfield is giving up just 138.3 yards per game (81.7 pass, 56.6 pass), 1.84 yards per rush, just 40.5% on pass attempts with NO passing touchdowns by opposing quarterbacks.

Sophomore Jayvin Norman had the first 100-yard game rushing in his young career for the victors. Norman finished with 116 yards on 10 totes and had one of the three rushing touchdowns in the first half by the Wildcats. TIPPECANOE 31, TROY 16 – It was a sixth straight win for Tippecanoe (6-1, 6-0) since dropping the opener to Bellbrook. The red-hot, Red Devils built a 24-0 over Troy (3-4, 3-3) advantage on a seven-yard touchdown run by Cayd Everhart with just over six minutes left in the third quarter. Everhart ran for a career high 190 yards and a pair of scores. It was the seniors third straight game with at least 100 yards on the ground.

BELLBROOK 63, MADISON SENIOR 13 – Seth Borondy is a man on a mission. The Bellbrook (5-2, 2-1) senior ran for 270 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries as the Golden Eagles soared past Madison Senior (0-7, 0-4). It was the third straight victory for Bellbrook. Borondy has run for 916 yards (305.3/game), averaged 15.3 yards per carry with 12 touchdowns (11 rush, one rec) during the Golden Eagles winning streak. He has 1,336 yards rushing, 1,784 all-purpose yards with 17 trips to the end zone in seven games.

CHAMINADE JULIENNE 63, CARROLL 7 – Chaminade Julienne (3-2, 2-0) kept its hopes alive for a GCL Co-ed title after pounding rival Carroll (1-6, 0-2). The Eagles churned out 404 yards, averaged 15.5 yards per carry with five touchdowns rushing. Walter Sledge found the end zone four times on seven carries for 140 yards. Sophomore Josiah Payne had a game high 164 yards on six totes. Chaminade Julienne senior quarterback Luke Chandler had six completions. Three of those went for touchdowns to classmate Kenyon Owens who finished with 101 yards receiving. The Eagles control their own destiny with games the next two weeks versus unbeatens, Badin (7-0, 2-0) and McNicholas (7-0, 2-0).
