Novak, Hicks, Mullins Named Best in Division III
- Updated: November 17, 2021
It has been a magical year for Western Brown (11-2) quarterback Drew Novak. The junior has thrown for 4,886 yards, ran for 1,068, with 52 passing touchdowns and 19 scores on the ground helping the Broncos to their first ever regional finals appearance. Novak’s 52 touchdown tosses are 17th most in a season by a quarterback in Ohio history. He is 114 yards shy of becoming just the sixth player in the state to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season. Those gaudy numbers earned Novak the OPSWA Division III Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year honors and the nomination for Ohio Mr. Football for the Southwest District.
Alter linebacker CJ Hicks was named the Division III Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year for a second straight season. The Ohio State-bound Hicks was all over the field with 84 total tackles and a pair of interceptions including a 99-yard pick six against Chaminade Julienne. He also amassed 1,442 all-purpose yards (667 rush, 397 rec) and nine touchdowns (five rush, four rec).
Bob Mullins of Monroe was named the Coach of the Year. He led the Hornets to an 8-3 mark and a second round playoff game.
