Cincinnati Round-Up: Fairfield continues hot start
- Updated: September 2, 2022
Week three was another action packed and exciting night on the gridiron as area teams fought tooth and nail for victories. A division II contender continued to dominate its early competition while staying unbeaten and a GMC team finally got revenge.
NO. 5 FAIRFIELD 34, NO. 11 COLERAIN 7
The Fairfield Indians made their case to be seen as one of the top teams in the area. The Indians moved to 3-0 on the season with a decisive 34-7 victory over host Colerain.
Fairfield was led by senior quarterback Talen Fisher who was trouble for the Cardinal defense the entire night. Fisher rushed for touchdown runs of 75, 38, and 2 on his way to the big night. Fisher finished with 10 carries, 145 yards and those three touchdowns to pace the attack.
The Indians also got a strong rushing performance from Jordan Jackson who toted the ball 28 times for a team-leading 174 yards and a touchdown. Fairfield received a supreme effort from its defense in holding the Colerain offense down all night and only giving up 7 points.
The Indians look to continue their strong showing early on this season as they host Sycamore next week.
Colerain will try to regroup and gain their first win when they entertain Mason.
NO. 7 ELDER 21, SPRINGBORO 20
Elder survived a thrilling game when they beat Springboro 21-20 on the road Friday night.
A highly contested battle saw Springboro jump out to a nice advantage before the Elder Panthers regrouped and got the victory.
Luke Flowers scored on a touchdown run to cap off a 65-yard opening drive and it looked as though Elder would be in the driver’s seat all night.
Springboro would come up with a big response as quarterback Evan Ruzzo connected on back to back touchdown passes of 22 and 23 yards to give Springboro a 14-7 lead at the half.
Opening the third quarter, the ‘Boro would get an 80-yard TD run from Will Yates on the first play from scrimmage to take a 20-7 advantage. The missed PAT would prove to be detrimental.
After a quick drive, Flowers would score again on a 2-yard run and quarterback Ben Schoster would follow up with a 9 yard run to give Elder the lead at 21-20. Springboro was unable to score again giving Elder the win.
Elder’s Luke Flowers rushed for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Panthers from Price Hill. Will Yates led Springboro with 135 yards on the ground and Evan Ruzzo had another strong game through the air and on the ground as well.
NO. 9 KINGS 51, WALNUT HILLS 8
Kings jumped on Walnut Hills early and never looked back as they coasted to a dominating victory.
The Knights returned a fumble for a touchdown and got a 42-yard TD pass on their second offensive play to put their stamp on the game early.
Kings did more damage and led 30-0 after just the first quarter. A 44-0 lead at the half brought the running clock into play and the Knights sailed to victory in the second half.
