Preview: Wyoming at Indian Hill
- Updated: September 7, 2022
It’s the Cincinnati Hills League opener and the Blitz 5 Game of the Week is out at one of the league’s fiercest rivalries as Wyoming looks to extend its 60-game regular season winning streak on the road. Indian Hill is hoping to get out of its funk and ruin the Cowboys’ parade. It is going to take a herculean effort by the Braves to bring down Wyoming, but anything is possible when these two teams face off.
#21 WYOMING COWBOYS (3-0) at INDIAN HILL BRAVES (0-3)
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m., September 9th

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior RB CJ Hester is the centerpiece of the Wyoming offense. The reigning OPSWA Ohio Division IV Offensive Player of the Year and Western Michigan commit has 464 yards and six touchdowns rushing on the season. Junior QB/LB Quaid Hauer has thrown for 316 yards, accounted for three touchdowns (two pass, one rush) and leads the Cowboys with 30 total tackles (19 solo). Senior OL/DL Joel Allen, an OPSWA Second Team All-Ohio selection a year ago has a team high 4.0 sacks. Classmates OL/DL AJ Howard and TE/DL Tony Blair each have a pair of sacks.
All eyes will be on Indian Hill junior QB Alex Grace and how he handles the Wyoming pass rush. Sophomores RB/DL Penn Picton and RB James LaBarbara need to run the ball effectively to take some of the load off of Grace. Picton is also one of the Braves top tacklers on defense. He teams with senior DL Xavier Coach to bring the heat up front.
TEAM TRENDS: Wyoming has won the last eight games in this series by an average of 15.6 points and ended Indian Hill’s season in the playoffs three times during that span. The Cowboys have outscored their opponents 96-0 on the season. During its 60-game winning streak, Wyoming has held 42 foes to seven points or fewer with 23 shutouts.
Indian Hill is allowing 43.7 points per game with an average margin of defeat of 37.3 points. The Braves have lost five in a row dating back to last season. They have had two five game losing streaks in their last 15 contests.
HEAD COACHES:
Wyoming: Aaron Hancock (110-16 at Wyoming, 11th year; 110-16 overall)
Indian Hill: John Rodenberg (0-3 at Indian Hill, first year; 188-128 overall, 29th year)
PLAYOFF HISTORY:
Wyoming (27 appearances, 32-25) – 2021, 2020 (Regional Champion), 2019 (Regional Champion), 2018 (State Champion), 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2010, 2009 (Regional Champion), 2007, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998 (Regional Champion), 1997, 1996, 1994, 1992, 1988, 1977 (State Champion), 1975 (State Runner-up)
Indian Hill (15 appearances, 10-15) – 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1996
WYOMING’S KEYS TO VICTORY: It’s not broke so there is no need to try and fix anything. Look for the Cowboys to bring relentless pressure into the Braves backfield. On offense, Wyoming will pound the rock with Hester and that will set up the passing alleys for Hauer to be successful.
INDIAN HILL’S KEYS TO VICTORY: The Braves need to do everything they haven’t done this season, including stopping the run and protecting the football. Turnovers have killed the Braves to this point and that means a tired defense is having to work extra hard. Indian Hill needs to execute on both sides of the ball with precision. There is little margin for error in this affair.
Prediction: Wyoming 35, Indian Hill 10
