Cincinnati Round Up: Wyoming claims seventh straight title
- Updated: October 21, 2022
A Cincinnati Hills League champion was crowned and high-level teams in both the GMC and ECC went to battle to close out the regular season in the Cincinnati area.
#6 MASON 10, #4 PRINCETON 7
The Mason Comets went on the road and came away with a gritty victory on Friday night. The Mason defense put up a heck of an outing as they held one of the premiere offenses in the area to a single touchdown. That touchdown came late in the fourth quarter as the Comet defense repeatedly made plays throughout the game.
Princeton’s defense was no slouch themselves. A Colson Bunch 43-yard field goal were the only points they had given up until a late drive by the Comets. Nick Sailers was a catalyst on the drive with some big time runs. Quarterback Larson Brown capped off the drive with a 1-yard sneak with 8:04 to go in the game.
The Vikings responded quickly when RJ West found Riley Woods for a 22-yard touchdown reception to cut the lead to 10-7. The Vikings would get the ball back, but Mason held them to a turnover on downs to ice the win.
#9 KINGS 41, #20 ANDERSON 26
The Kings Knights overcame a halftime deficit to get a big road win over Anderson on Friday night. The teams put up a combined 1,042 yards in the high scoring shootout.
Knights quarterback Will Kocher continued his strong play this season with another spectacular performance. The senior play caller was 34-49 for a career-high 492 yards and six touchdowns through the air. He hooked up with star wideout Michael Mussari nine times for 229 yards and three of the scores. Jake Cameron (103 yds, 2 TD) and Nate Lyman (109 yds, TD) were also over 100 yards receiving. Kocher also did his thing on the ground as he carried the rock 10 times for 95 more yards.
Anderson was led by QB Griffin Scalf who threw for 384 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Santos Alvarez caught 10 balls for 150 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.
#17 WYOMING 23, MADEIRA 7
Wyoming continued their dominance of the Cincinnati Hills League as they pulled away from Madeira in the second half for a 23-7 win. The Cowboys have now won seven straight conference titles.
The game was tied at 7-7 at the half as both teams came to play early. Wyoming’s Quaid Hauer scored from 1-yard out to give the Cowboys a 7-0 lead. Madeira would answer quickly as Max Autry caught a 69-yard bomb from Peter Breidenbach to tie the game.
Wyoming however would take off in the second half as they got touchdowns from CJ Hester and DJ Gray to take a 20-7 lead that they would not relinquish. Carter Rummer tacked on a 27-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to produce the final score.
