TSF 2022 Indiana DPOY: Jake Pierce
- Updated: February 21, 2023
Starring on both sides of the ball Jake Pierce was a cornerstone of a Lawrenceburg (13-2) squad that finished as the Indiana Class 3A state-runner in 2022. Pierce’s efforts for the Tigers saw him be named the TriState Football Indiana Defensive of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati. He was also selected IFCA to the Class 3A Senior All-State Team as an offensive lineman.
Pierce paced Lawrenceburg on defense with a team high 114 tackles (60 solo), with two sacks, 11.0 tackles for losses, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and four interceptions. Sandwiched in between the Tigers two losses to Class 4A state champion East Central to start the season and in the Class 3A title game to Bishop Chatard were 13 consecutive victories. In that span, the Lawrenceburg defense was sensational allowing just 47 total points, giving up just 3.6 points per game with seven shutouts (including six in a row to end the regular season). The program won its 21st sectional championship, sixth regional crown and made the state finals for the third time in school history and first time since 2016.
TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards for the Indiana Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. Pierce is the second player from Lawrenceburg to earn the honor. Mason Parris won the award in 2017 & ’18.
