Cincinnati Round-Up: Vikings, Middies stay unbeaten

Princeton showed there may be a new reign in the GMC, the Middies of Middletown are off to a hot start, and some Eagles are soaring to a 2-0 start in week two of our Cincinnati round-up.

#3 PRINCETON 18, NO. 5 LAKOTA WEST 3

Lakota West and Princeton played a defensive battle in the opening night of GMC play on Friday night. Both defenses brought their “A” games and made it hard for the opposing offenses all night long.

David Hambrick had two rushing touchdowns for the visiting Vikings. Both came from two yards out as Princeton was able to inch its way into the endzone through a tough defense.

The Vikings’ defense was the bigger story as they did not allow a touchdown and sealed the game with a pick six from junior linebacker Paul Nelson. The Vikings move to 2-0 on the season while the Firebirds find themselves at 0-2.

#19 MIDDLETOWN 20, NO. 22 COLERAIN 3

Middletown scored 20 unanswered points to beat Colerain in a GMC matchup. The Middies move to 2-0 on the season and the Cardinals fall to 0-2.

Jeremiah Landers scored twice on the ground and finished with 78 yards on 14 carries while also completing 15-of-27 passes for 110 yards and a TD through the air. Gabe Terrell led the charge for the Middies on defense with an interception to go along with 10 total tackles.

With the win, Middletown moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2011.

#11 MILFORD 34, LEBANON 29

Milford jumped out to a 28-3 lead and had to withstand a furious Warriors comeback to come away with the 34-29 win on Friday night. The Eagles went on the road for a second straight week and came away with a big victory.

Reece Davis returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown for Milford to open the scoring. Davis would next haul in a TD reception from QB Luke Brand on a solid post pattern. Tofa Luani punched one in from the goal line and Ethan Melgard caught a 39-yard TD pass from Brand to put the Eagles up 28-3.

Lebanon responded with 26 unanswered points to take a one point lead with just over two minutes remaining. They used some trickery and a great onside kick to get back in the ball game but would ultimately fall short.

Davis would score his third touchdown of the game to seal the Milford win on the final drive.
