NKY Round-Up: Raiders back to winning ways
- Updated: August 25, 2023
Beechwood continued its dominance in week two and a group of Raiders got back to their winning ways in our NKY round-up.
RYLE 28, CONNER 7
The Ryle Raiders picked up their first win of the short season by beating Conner on Friday night. Ryle got a big lift in the second half to pull away in a tight contest. It marked the ninth time over the teams’ last 10 meetings that the Raiders came up on the winning side of the ledger.
Logan Verax hooked up with sophomore Dylan Lee for two scores to lead the way for the Raiders in the pull away win. Verax completed 10-of-19 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns and added another 83 yards and TD on the ground on 14 attempts.
#24 BEECHWOOD 50, CAMPBELL COUNTY 7
Beechwood raced out to a 37-0 halftime lead and never looked back as they routed Campbell County Friday night. The Tigers were never threatened as they continued this dominance in the series. Beechwood is now on a 12 game winning streak going back to last season and they look to be the team to beat early on this season as well.
Clay Hayden led the charge at the quarterback position. He connected with various wideouts all night long, putting the ball just in the right spot to march Beechwood repeatedly down the field. The junior play caller has been on his game so far this season and looks to lead the Tigers to another championship.
COOPER 42, HENRY CLAY 2
It was a lopsided affair as the Cooper Jaguars pulled out a 40-point win in Week 2 over the Henry Clay Blue Devils.
Cam O’Hara threw for three scores in the first quarter alone, including a pair of TD tosses to Isaiah Johnson, to go along with another to Austin Alexander as the Jaguars raced out to a 28-0 lead after just one period of play. Cooper’s defense was equally impressive throughout the game and held to Henry Clay to just one yard rushing on 21 carries in the victory.
