Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 7

For the third time this season there is a new #1 team in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com. The Princeton Vikings took over the top spot after Winton Woods fell to Anderson. East Central and Elder are right on the heels of the Vikings, who are looking for their first outright GMC title since 1993.
There are only three games that have Blitz 5 Top 25 facing each other, #3 Elder hosts #4 Moeller in this week’s marquee matchup. Also on the slate are #9 Winton Woods welcoming in #18 Kings and #14 Hamilton on the road at #21 Middletown. Six teams in this week’s rankings are still unbeaten.
Here is a look at the latest Blitz 5 Top 25:
- Princeton (6-0, 5-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Oak Hills (2-4, 2-3), 14-7. The Vikings are playing with fire after a second straight win by seven points or less. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at Fairfield (1-5, 1-4).
- East Central (6-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat SOUTH DEARBORN (3-3, 1-1), 51-0. The Trojans’ defense has pitched three straight shutouts. UP NEXT: CONNERSVILLE (2-4, 0-1).
3. Elder (4-2, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won St. Xavier (3-3, 0-2), 32-31, OT. Quarterback Ryan Brass has run for at least two touchdowns in all six of the Panthers’ games. NEXT UP: 9/29 – #4 MOELLER (3-3, 2-0).
4. Moeller (3-3, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #13 LA SALLE (4-2, 0-1), 28-20. The Crusaders can win the GCL South outright with a victory on Friday night. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at #3 Elder (4-2, 1-0).
5. Lakota West (4-2, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: won at then #16 Sycamore (3-3, 3-2), 34-14. The Firebirds have won four in a row and scored 30-plus points in all of those wins after scoring three total points in their two losses to open up 2023. NEXT UP: 9/29 – OAK HILLS (2-4, 2-3).
6. St. Xavier (3-3, 0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to the #4 ELDER (4-2, 1-0), 32-31, OT.
The Bombers ran for 382 yards with sophomore quarterback Daniel Vollmer picking up 281 of those yards versus Elder. NEXT UP: 9/29 – LOUISVILLE TRINITY (KY)(3-3).
7. Milford (6-0, 5-0) – LAST WEEK: beat LITTLE MIAMI (0-6, 0-5), 28-0. The Eagles are averaging four rushing touchdowns per game. NEXT UP: 9/1 – WALNUT HILLS (0-6, 0-5).
8. Anderson (5-1, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: beat then #1 WINTON WOODS (5-1, 4-1), 20-13. The Raptors’ defense has given up 14 points or less in all five of their victories. NEXT UP: 9/29 – LITTLE MIAMI (0-6, 0-5).
9. Winton Woods (5-1, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #11 Anderson (5-1, 4-1), 20-13. The Warriors mustered just 10 yards rushing against Anderson after averaging 212.4 yards per game in the first half of the season. UP NEXT: 9/29 – #18 KINGS (4-2, 3-2).
10. Withrow (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #12 Taft (4-2, 0-1), 31-0. The Tigers are allowing just 6.1 points per contest while holding every opponent to 14 points or less. NEXT UP: 9/30 – WOODWARD (1-5, 0-1).
11. Covington Catholic (6-0, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat HOLMES (0-6, 0-1), 61-0. The Colonels have scored 31 points or more in all six of their victories. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at Grant County (2-3, 0-1).
12. Badin (6-0, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat BISHOP FENWICK (4-2, 0-1), 28-3. The Rams are allowing just 6.1 points per contest while holding every opponent to 14 points or less. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at Carroll (2-4, 0-1).
13. La Salle (4-2, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #5 Moeller (3-3, 2-0), 28-20. The final four foes for the Lancers are all .500 or better. NEXT UP: 9/29 – INDIANAPOLIS CATHEDRAL (IN)(4-2).
14. Hamilton (4-2, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: beat FAIRFIELD (1-5, 1-4), 31-28, OT. The Big Blue gave up a season-high 28 points to Fairfield. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at #21 Middletown (3-3, 2-3).
15.Taft (4-2, 0-1) LAST WEEK: lost at then #8 WITHROW (5-1), 31-0. The Senators have scored 14 points or fewer in three of their last four outings. NEXT UP: 9/29 – HUGHES (1-5, 0-1).
16. Highlands (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #24 Cooper (4-2, 0-1), 58-51. The red-hot Bluebirds have won four in a row and have averaged 54.2 points in those victories. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at Dixie Heights (2-3, 1-0).
17. Beechwood (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat GALLATIN COUNTY (3-2, 0-1), 56-0.
The Tigers have put up 50 points or more three times in their last five contests. NEXT UP: 9/29 – WALTON-VERONA (2-3, 0-1).
18. Kings (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: beat WEST CLERMONT (3-3, 3-3), 21-7. Eight of junior Nate Lyman’s 23 receptions have gone for touchdowns. UP NEXT: 9/29 – at #9 Winton Woods (5-1, 4-1).
19. Mason (3-3, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: beat then #17 MIDDLETOWN (3-3, 2-3), 17-14. The Comets have not scored more than 24 points in a game and 20-plus points just twice. NEXT UP: 9/29 – at Colerain (0-6, 0-5).
20. Sycamore (3-3, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #7 LAKOTA WEST (4-2, 4-1), 34-14. The Aviators have dropped their last two contests. NEXT UP: 9/29 – LAKOTA EAST (1-5, 1-4).
21. Middletown (3-2, 2-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #21 Mason (3-3, 3-2).

23. Mount Healthy (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Northwest (0-6, 0-1), 49-14. Israel Bradford and JayJay Etheridge have combined for 15 of the Owls’ 24 offensive touchdowns. NEXT UP: 9/29 – HARRISON (4-2).
24. Wyoming (6-0, 3-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Reading (4-2, 2-1), 21-14. Senior Quaid Hauer is third in the CHL in passing yards and second in the league in tackles. NEXT UP: 9/29 – DEER PARK (2-4, 0-3).
