Milford wins again

After a shutout for the second consecutive week, the Milford Eagles are having one of the best seasons in school history. They continue to carry momentum into the division I region IV playoffs.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Our Blitz 5 Game of the Week landed at the Eagles nest as Milford played host to visiting West Clermont in an Eastern Cincinnati Conference clash on Friday night. The Wolves were looking to get a big conference win to boost their morale and increase their playoff seeding. Milford was attempting to continue its historic season and move a step closer to a possible number one seed in the playoffs. After a great game full of physical play and hard hitting, it was Milford who came away with the home win.

The Eagles came out fast and meant business. The offense took the field and went right to work utilizing the quick passing game to make some plays. Nathan Webster added a couple of strong runs to help the offense on the drive. Milford quarterback Luke Brand converted a big 4th down conversion with his legs to keep the drive alive and two plays later, Webster got the scoring started with a 2-yard plunge. The extra point was botched, and Milford led quickly 6-0. West Clermont went on a nice drive themselves after some nice runs from quarterback Elijah Embry. They got in field goal range but failed to convert. The lead was 6-0 after the first.

Milford struck fast to start the second quarter. Luke Brand dropped back and found wideout Ethan Melgard deep for a 48-yard touchdown pass. Mason Cooper converted the extra point and the Eagles led 13-0. After a fairly clean game up until this point, things then got sloppy. It started as both teams defenses forced punts, then the turnovers came. The two teams combined for four straight turnovers to end the half.

The Wolves tried a reverse and two players collided leading to a Milford fumble recovery in plus territory. With great field position Milford looked poised to score but Brand was picked up by Riley Woolridge in the endzone. West Clermont would again cough it up as Milford’s Toto Luani delivered a big hit causing a fumble and recovered it himself. Again with great field position, the Eagles would turn it over on downs. West Clermont had one final shot to end the half but the Eagles defense came to the challenge and ended the half with a sack and a 13-0 lead.

The third was dominated by Milford. After a defensive stop, the Eagles went on a long drive offensively. They overcame several penalties along the way and used their quick passing game to drive down the field. Webster took the wildcat snap around the right side for a 1-yard score late in the third and a commanding 20-0 lead.

In the fourth it was much of the same as the Eagles defense shut down West Clermont and the offense gobbled up some clock before putting in a score. Webster added a 40-yard scamper for a score in the closing minute to produce the final score. The Eagles pitched a second straight shutout and grabbed a share of the ECC conference title with a 27-0 victory.
