- Updated: October 27, 2023
CovCath finished off a dominant regular season and Ryle pulled out a big win in our NKY round-up.
NO. 10 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 35, CAMPBELL COUNTY 7
The Colonels of Covington Catholic raced by Campbell County to finish the regular season unbeaten. CovCath heads to the playoffs with aspirations of a state championship. The Colonels sprinted to a 35-0 lead before giving up a score to the Camels.
Quarterback Evan Pitzer tossed four touchdown passes on the night as he was in full command of the offense. Pitzer found Willie Rodriguez, Noah Johnson, Oliver Link, and Tate Kruer for scores. Owen Leen added a rushing score for the Colonels in the win.
Nathan Smith scored the lone touchdown for Campbell County.
RYLE 53, DIXIE HEIGHTS 21
Ryle exploded for a big win over Dixie Heights to close out the regular season. The Raiders trailed 13-6 early but used a big burst to go on to a dominating victory. Quarterback Logan Verax was back to his old antics in the win. The senior led multiple drives that went for scores as Dixie Heights could not do anything to stop the high-powered offense.
Ryle scored 13 points in the final 2:30 of the second quarter to turn a 13-6 deficit into a 19-13 advantage at the half. They would score 27 unanswered points to take a commanding advantage that they would not relinquish.
Dixie Heights was without starting quarterback Armoni Gregg and held in nicely early, but his absence proved to be too much to overcome.
