NKY Round-Up: Ryle takes Campbell County in OT
- Updated: October 7, 2023
District play is ramping up in Northern Kentucky with just three weeks left heading into Friday night, which included several key matchups in all classes.
RYLE 37, CAMPBELL COUNTY 36
The Ryle Raiders and the Campbell County Camels kept it close enough throughout the game and fought into free football, giving fans a thrilling night with the Raiders coming back to topple the Camels 37-36 to snap their three-game losing skid. With the loss, the Camels fall to 2-5.
Campbell County led most of the game and got out to their largest lead of 30-13 in the fourth quarter. However, two touchdowns and a field goal tied the ball game with time expiring. Both teams would score in overtime, but the Raiders ultimately pulled it out with a touchdown to end the game.
DIXIE HEIGHTS 42, CONNER 15
The Colonels rolled out to a 28-7 first-half lead and never looked back as they pulled away from the Cougars in the second half. The win, coupled with Cooper’s 49-7 victory over Scott on Thursday night, moved Dixie Heights and Cooper into a two-way tie in second place inside of Class 5A district play.
Quarterback Armani Gregg continued his impressive campaign by rushing for four touchdowns and throwing for another score. The junior has now passed for 13 touchdowns and ran for 12 more on the year to pace the Colonels. Senior Tyson Beach was on the receiving end of the TD pass, his first receiving score of the season.

NEWCATH 22 , NEWPORT 6
Newport Central Catholic got it done on both sides of the ball on Friday to take its 26th straight win over Newport in the Fireman’s Bell series, as well as snap a three-game losing skid.
Despite it looking close at halftime when it was 9-6 after a touchdown for each team, a missed extra point by Newport, and a safety on Newport’s offense, NewCath pulled away in the second half when Carter Sleet found the end zone on a 15-yard scamper. Then in the fourth quarter, a touchdown pass from Louie Collopy to Landon Kraft sealed the deal for the Thoroughbreds.
Next for NewCath is a date with the Greendevils of Dayton. For Newport, the Wildcats will take the short drive across I-471 to Bellevue to take on the Tigers.
