Batesville brings home sectional title
- Updated: November 4, 2023

For the first time since 2015 Batesville (11-1) can call itself sectional champions after going on the road to beat Indian Creek (8-4), 29-13. The road to the school’s 10th sectional title wasn’t easy for the Bulldogs having to beat three teams that they had taken down during the regular season – Rushville, Lawrenceburg and Indian Creek.
It wasn’t pretty and certainly not the best performance of the year by Batesville but it found a way to handle adversity and overcome penalties and potentially spirit-breaking turnovers. The Bulldogs lived up to their nickname improving to 6-0 away from home.
Gage Pohlman ran for 144 yards and three touchdowns helping the victors to their seventh straight triumph. The junior has 14 rushing scores on the years. Pohlman’s classmates Will Jaisle connected with Cade Kaiser or the 15th time this season for Batesville’s other touchdown. Jaisle upped his touchdown pass total to 27 for the season.
The Bulldogs get rewarded for their efforts by getting to host Heritage Hills (11-1) and its high-octane offense for the regional title next Friday night. Batesville has one regional championship, and it came 37 years ago in 1986. Heritage Hills is searching for its 11th regional trophy and first since 2019.
