CLASS 6A
BRYAN STATION 49, RYLE 12
The Ryle Raiders saw their season come to and end at the hands of Bryan Station on Friday night. The Raiders fell into a 28-0 halftime deficit and were not able to recover in the second half. The Raiders could not prevent back to back region titles for Bryan Station.
Northern Kentucky’s all time leading passer Logan Verax left it all on the field in his final game at the helm for the Raiders. The senior led a pair of touchdown drives but couldn’t get Ryle into striking distance. The Raiders finished the season a respectable 8-5.
CLASS 5A
HIGHLANDS 30, NORTH LAUREL 7
Highlands got a dominating win over North Laurel on Friday Night. The Bluebirds scored two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to jump out to a commanding 27-0 halftime lead that they would not relinquish.
Brody Benke rushed for two scores and threw for another in the first half. Carson Class caught the receiving score and Cam Geisler had a 9-yard touchdown score to give Highlands the commanding lead.
The Bluebirds would use an efficient gameplan in the second half to come away with the win without North Laurel getting into striking distance. Highlands heads back to the final four for the first time since 2015.
COOPER 24, SOUTHWESTERN 14
The Cooper Jaguars got a huge program win over Southwestern on Friday night. The Jaguars advance to the semifinals where they will face Highlands.
Cam O’Hara led the Jaguars to victory with a great command of the offense. This showed on a go ahead touchdown pass to Austin Alexander that gave Cooper the lead for good. Keagan Maher also had a nice game on the ground for Cooper. He scored on a 44-yard scamper late in the third to put the game out of reach.
The Jaguars will look to pull the upset next week by slowing down Highlands who has been on an incredible tear all season long. It should be a great semifinal matchup in Fort Thomas a week from now.
CLASS 4A
COVINGTON CATHOLIC 31, JOHNSON CENTRAL 0
Covington Catholic continued their undefeated season with a coast to coast win over Johnson Central. The Colonels came out early with a business mindset and set the tone from the opening segment. They used a big second half to pull away.
Braylon Miller caught a touchdown pass from Evan Pitzer and Pitzer ran in the two point conversion for an 8-0 lead. The Colonels defense held Johnson Central scoreless in the first half and CovCath led 8-0 at the half.
In the second half, the CovCath defense capitalized with a safety and Pitzer then found Miller again for another score for a 17-0 advantage. Late in the third Pitzer tossed his third touchdown of the night this time to Willie Rodriguez. Miller would grab another touchdown toss in the fourth quarter for his third score of the night. Pitzer threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns on the night in the win.
