2024 Snapshot: Goshen
- Updated: June 28, 2024
This is a pivotal year for Goshen. The Warriors have the chance to make the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time in program history. It’s an achievement that could propel the Warriors to a whole new level on the football field for many seasons to come.
Accomplishing that feat won’t be easy. The Warriors must do a better job of putting points on the board and keeping opponents out of the end zone in a conference that is loaded with potent offenses. Goshen averaged just 17.0 points per game and had an average margin of defeat of 20.5 points per contest in 2023. If they reverse those numbers the Warriors will have their first winning season since 2019.
Head coach Shane Elkin likes the core of this team and realizes they must stay healthy to build upon their modest success from a year ago. “We return 11 players with varsity experience, but we are young and our numbers are low.”
Even though there are obstacles to overcome, Elkin exudes positive vibes about what lies ahead for the Warriors. “We are having a great offseason in the weight room (finished 9th out of 26 teams in the State Powerlifting Meet) and the future looks bright.”
Division III, Region 12
2023 RECORD: 3-8, 2-3 SBAAC American
COACH: Shane Elkin (5-16 at Goshen, two years; 25-66 overall; nine years)
HONOR ROLL
Camden Telinda, So, RB/DB – Emerged as one of the top freshmen in the Cincinnati area last fall. Telinda amassed 1,265 all-purpose yards, ran for 776 yards, had 21 receptions for 233 yards and found the end zone 13 times (11 rush, two rec). On defense, he tallied 46 total tackles with three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He was named OPSWA Division III Honorable Mention All-Southwest District (RB) for his work.
Freshmen of Influence: Class of 2027
Grant Herndon, Sr, OL/LB – The leader of the defense, Herndon has all-district talent and then some. He was named First Team All-SBAAC American as a junior. Herndon has 129 total tackles, three-and-a-half sacks, three forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and two interceptions at the varsity level.
Kash Keitz, Sr, WR/DB – One of the most underrated players in the conference. Keitz was rock solid as a junior reeling in 22 balls for 366 yards and five touchdowns. He was named Second Team All-SBAAC American for his efforts. Keitz also has 65 total tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, five pass breakups and two interceptions in a Warriors uniform.
Carson Hunley, Sr, OL/DL – The leader and anchor on both sides of the Warriors line. Hunley, who was named Honorable Mention All-SBAAC American in 2023 has 43 total tackles in his career.
OTHER RETURNEES
River Gambrell, Sr, WR/LB – A returning starter who will give Goshen positive production on both sides of the ball. Gambrell has nine receptions for 223 yards (24.8 yards/rec) and two touchdowns in a Warriors uniform.
Aiden Thompson, Sr, TE/LB – The time has come for Thompson to strut his stuff as a senior. It should be a breakout year.
Lucas Perkins, Sr, RB/LB – Is an excellent complement to Telinda out of the backfield. Perkins heads into his final campaign with 440 yards and four touchdowns rushing.
Jace Combs, Jr, RB/LB – Adds depth to the middle of the Warirors defense. Combs had 15 total tackles in 2023.
Jorden Williams, Jr, TE/LB – The upside for Williams is very promising. He registered 30 total tackles with two tackles for losses as a sophomore.
Jomar Berg, So, RB/DB – Along with classmate Telinda, Berg sets the tone and example for the future of Goshen football. He had 22 total tackles, a forced fumble, three pass breakups and two interceptions as a freshman.
