Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 4

Three weeks into the season and there are just 11 teams in Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com without a loss. Three of those schools are in the GCL South which sees all four of its squads in the top 10 of this week’s poll. The conference is a combined 11-1 overall.
There are five games pitting ranked teams against each other this Friday night as #17 Lakota East hosts #2 Princeton, #3 Lakota West welcomes in #19 Fairfield, #18 Hamilton is at #21 Mason, rankings newcomer #25 West Clermont is at #12 Kings and in Kentucky, #9 Highlands is on the road at #13 Ryle.
Here’s the Blitz 5 Top 25 for Week 4:
1. Moeller (3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #17 East Central (1-2, 1-0), 42-13. The Crusaders are averaging 40.7 points per game. NEXT UP: 9/14 – Mallard Creek (NC)(1-1) at Ironton (OH) High School.
2. Princeton (2-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #2 Lakota West (2-1, 1-1), 14-6. After giving up five touchdowns to Moeller in the opener, the Vikings have not allowed another team into the end zone. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at #17 Lakota East (2-1, 2-0).
3. Lakota West (2-1, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #4 Princeton (2-1, 2-0), 14-6. The Firebirds fall to Princeton for a second straight year in the regular season.NEXT UP: 9/13 – #19 FAIRFIELD (2-1, 2-0).
4. St. Xavier (2-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Indianapolis Cathedral (IN)(1-2), 35-31. Quarterback Chase Herbstreit came into the season with -3 yards and one touchdown rushing in his career. He has 227 yards (75.7/game) and four touchdowns on the ground through the first three weeks. NEXT UP: 9/13 – WITHROW (0-3).
5. Anderson (3-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Little Miami (0-3, 0-2), 64-0. The Raptors are averaging 55.7 points per game. They have outscored their opponents 132-7 in the first half. Six different players have found the end zone at least two times, NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Lebanon (2-1, 1-1).
6. Winton Woods (3-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat #14 Milford (2-1,1-1), 22-3. The Warriors defense keeps getting better. They yielded just three points after allowing only five and six points in weeks one and two. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Turpin (2-1,1-1).
7. Cooper (3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat #13 Ryle (2-1), 21-14. The Jaguars end a nine-game losing streak against Ryle (last win 2015). NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Campbell County (1-2).
8. Elder (3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Springboro (2-1), 30-6. The Panthers are holding foes to 8.3 points per contest. NEXT UP: 9/14 – at St. Edward (2-1).
9. Highlands (3-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Campbell County (1-2), 34-0. For the ninth time in the last 13 games the Bluebirds held an opponent to seven points or less (third shutout in that span). NEXT UP: 9/13 – at #13 Ryle (2-1).
10. La Salle (3-0) – NEXT UP: won at Fairmont (2-1), 18-12. A quick start has seen the Division II Lancers beat three Division I teams. NEXT UP: 9/13 – Louisville Central (KY)(1-2).
11. Middletown (3-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Colerain (0-3, 0-2). 16-10. The Middies are 3-0 for the first time since 2011. Middletown is the only unbeaten team left in Division I, Region II and the GMC. NEXT UP: 9/13 – SYCAMORE (0-3, 0-2).
12. Kings (2-1, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Loveland (0-3, 0-2), 28-20. The Knights are giving up just 63.3 yards on the ground, per game. NEXT UP: 9/13 – #25 WEST CLERMONT (2-1, 1-1).
13. Ryle (2-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at #7 Cooper (3-0), 21-14. Five turnovers are too much to overcome in the Raiders first loss of the season. NEXT UP: 9/13 – #9 HIGHLANDS (3-0).
14. Milford (2-1, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at #6 Winton Woods (3-0, 2-0), 22-3. The Eagles were held to season lows of 78 yards passing and 70 yards rushing in last week’s loss. NEXT UP: 9/13 – LOVELAND (0-3, 0-2).
15. Harrison (3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Indian Hill (2-1), 49-19. The Wildcats are 3-0 for the first time in a decade (2014). NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Western Hills (0-3).
16. Covington Catholic (1-2) – LAST WEEK: beat Simon Kenton (2-1), 42-3. Quarterback Cash Harney has run and thrown for more than 100 yards in each of the Colonels last two contests. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Dixie Heights (1-2).
17. Lakota East (2-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #9 Hamilton (2-1,1-1), 27-24, OT. The Thunderhawks are aiming for three straight victories for the first time since 2021 when they reeled off seven straight wins. NEXT UP: 9/13 – #2 PRINCETON (2-1, 2-0).
18. Hamilton (1-2, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #19 Lakota East (2-1, 2-0), 27-24, OT. A tough schedule has the Big Blue facing their fourth straight Top 25 opponent on Friday night. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at #21 Mason (1-2, 1-1).
19. Fairfield (2-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Sycamore (0-3, 0-2), 56-13. The Indians have started GMC play 2-0 for the sixth time in the last nine years. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at #3 Lakota West (2-1, 1-1).
20. East Central (1-2, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: lost at #1 Moeller (3-0, 0-0), 41-13. The Trojans have dropped two games in a row for the first time since 2017. NEXT UP: 9/13 – FRANKLIN COUNTY (2-1, 0-1).
21. Mason (1-2, 1-1) – LAST WEEK: beat then #25 Oak Hills (1-2, 0-2), 20-7. Kicker Max Gogul has scored 19 of the Comets 43 points. The junior has more field goals (five) than the team has touchdowns (four). NEXT UP: 9/13 – #18 HAMILTON (1-2, 0-2).
22. Taft (3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Alter (1-2), 36-7. The Stingy Senators have allowed just two touchdowns and have a 25.7 point margin of victory. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Mount Healthy (2-1).
23. Badin (1-2) – LAST WEEK: won at Edgewood (0-3), 17-7. The Rams scored their first two touchdowns of the year. They are averaging just 6.7 points per game. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Bishop Ready (1-2).
24. Beechwood (3-0) – LAST WEEK: beat Dixie Heights (1-2), 41-20. It’s back-to-back games with 40-plus points for the Tigers. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at Simon Kenton (2-1).
25. West Clermont (2-1) – LAST WEEK: beat Lebanon (2-1, 1-1), 24-14. The Wolves have two of the league’s top four leaders in rushing yards. Junior Landon Young leads the ECC with 360 yards on the ground and quarterback Bo Rickman has run for 257 yards. NEXT UP: 9/13 – at #12 Kings (2-1, 1-1).
