Xenia outlasts Butler
- Updated: September 21, 2024
VANDALIA, OH – In a battle of the unbeatens, Xenia traveled to Butler High and used the
rushing attack of junior Deaunte’ White to outlast the Aviators in a tight battle, 25-17.
All night, it was all White for the Buccaneers. The two-way player found the endzone three
separate times in the contest, scoring 22 out of Xenia’s 25 points. After falling a touch down
behind early, White opened his scoring tally with a 7-yard rushing touchdown in the second
quarter to tie the game up at 7.
Xenia’s defense was just as good, forcing two critical turnovers from Butler’s offense and setting
their offense up with good field position. Even after the Aviators forced an interception from
senior quarterback Gavin McManus, the Buccaneers defense got the ball right back, forcing a
fumble on Butler’s ensuing drive.

Butler was able to find enough offensive success to play in front for most of the contest,
however, as junior wide receiver Cory Rice took off for a 24-yard rushing touchdown. Senior
quarterback Mason Reckner found his junior wideout Julius Rusk for a 31-yard catch-and-run
for the touchdown. Additionally, junior kicker Gryffin Bradley had a field goal from 46 yards,
respectively.
When it came down to crunch time, Xenia’s White had his number called once again, and
answered resoundingly. The junior took off for a 49-yard rushing touchdown to put Xenia up
eight after a two-point conversion. The eight-point deficit was too much for the Aviators to
overcome after a Reckner’s last gasp fourth-down heave fell incomplete.
