Cincinnati Round-Up: Moeller mauls Panthers
- Updated: October 5, 2024
Moeller continued to look the part of a champion in our Cincinnati Round-Up. Meanwhile, St. Xavier came up a bit short in their matchup vs. a perennial Kentucky power.
NO. 1 MOELLER 42, NO. 8 ELDER 14
The Moeller Crusaders won their third straight GCL south title on Friday with a win over Elder at Nippert Stadium. Tyler Joselyn scored two early touchdowns, and the Crusaders were never threatened by Elder on the night. Quarterback Matt Ponatoski tossed three touchdown passes on the night as well as he connected twice with wide receiver Jovan Love and once to Matthew Fogler. He passed for 307 yards on the night with only three incompletions.
POSTGAME INTERVIEW: Bert Bathiany, Moeller
The Panthers were able to get as close as 14 points but could never get the key stop when they needed it to put pressure on Moeller late in the game. Joey Thamann scored both Elder touchdowns in the loss.

LOUISVILLE TRINITY 7, NO. 3 ST. XAVIER 3
St. Xavier was unable to get anything going on the offensive end of the ball in a loss on the road at Louisville Trinity. Chase Herbstreit helped the Bombers put together some solid drives but they were not able to put points on the board against a solid defense. Daniel Vollmer was a bright spot in the run game as well for the Bombers.
The St. Xavier defense put up a great performance by only giving up one score on the night. A performance such as this will go a long way in the playoffs in a few weeks.
NO. 21 MASON 17, NO. 15 MIDDLETOWN 14
Mason used a solid run game and tough defense to beat Middletown on Friday night. The Comets got 86 yards rushing from quarterback Ashton Sheafe on the night to lead the charge. Sheafe also passed for 66 yards in the win. Temi Adensanya and Branden Dunn also had good games on the ground for the Comets.
Alex Brown and Ryan Davis led the charge defensively by leading the team in tackles. Jeremiah Landers and Maximillian Johnson were bright spots for the Middies.
