NKY Round-Up: Highlands pours it on
- Updated: October 5, 2024
The calendar has hit October and that means district action is in full swing in Northern Kentucky. Cooper and Highlands looked dominant in our Week 7 NKY Round-Up.
NO. 13 HIGHLANDS 49, DIXIE HEIGHTS 0
Highlands got their high-powered offense rolling as they sprinted past Dixie Heights on Friday night. The Bluebirds were feeling it early and never let their foot off of the gas for four quarters. It was 28-0 after one quarter and there was no hope for a close game after that.
Jackson Arnold had two touchdowns, Isaac Niemann had a score as did Adam Surrey, Tayden Lorenzen and Deven James. Rio Litmer rushed for a score and passed for several more in the win. The Highlands’ signal caller would up with 279 passing yards through the air and 79 more yards on the ground.
The Bluebirds’ defense was light out, limiting Dixie Heights to just 202 yards of total offense and keeping the Colonels off the scoreboard altogether. It marked the third shutout for the unit in seven games and Highlands has now held four of their seven opponents to a touchdown or less.
Highlands takes out an up and down few weeks on Dixie Heights.

LOUISVILLE ST. XAVIER 31, NO. 12 RYLE 24
After falling down 31-10 midway through the third quarter of action, the Ryle Raiders nearly pulled of a miraculous comeback on Friday night as they hosted perennial power Louisville St. Xavier.
Nathan Verax connected with Jacob Savage on a 11-yard TD pass with 4:42 left in regulation to make it a one-score game, but the Raiders were never able to get the ball back after that after St. X ran out the clock. The Tigers finished with 371 total yards of offense compared to Ryle’s 350 total yards in a game between two teams with aspirations of a deep post-season run.
Verax finished with two TD passes and ran for another of a 14-yard run in the loss.
Few teams in the state have played a more daunting non-district schedules than Ryle. Friday night marked the sixth time in six games which Ryle faced a team ranked among Kentucky’s top 10 in their respective class. The Raiders will enter district play next week.
NO. 6 COOPER 42, CONNER 17
Cam O’Hara threw four touchdowns and Keagan Maher rushed for 123 yards and two scores as Cooper moved to 7-0 for the first time in school history with a dominating win over Conner on Thursday night. On the defensive side of the ball Ryker Campbell tallied nine tackles and had an interception.
The Jaguars jumped out to a 28-3 halftime lead and never looked back as the offense was clicking on all cylinders from the outset. Cooper wide receiver Isaiah Johnson set a school record with his 41st receiving touchdown in his career on the night. The Jaguars also got scores from Malachi Ewell and Austin Alexander.
Conner’s Wyatt Hatfield rushed for 189 yards and two scores in the loss.
