As the high school football regular season is nearing its end in Kentucky, Friday night saw multiple matchups with big-time consequences on the postseason, including three different games featuring teams inside the Blitz 5 Top 25.

#10 RYLE 37, SIMON KENTON 0
For the third straight game the Ryle Raiders took things to a running clock as they cruised to a 37-0 victory to wrap up district play.

Ryle’s solid offensive attack proved to be too much to handle for the Pioneers, as the Buccaneers utilized the run game to chew the clock away. Ryle’s offense has relied on their junior quarterback Nathan Verax, who has thrown for over 1200 yards this season. Junior Jacob Savage has accumulated an impressive 600 yards rushing for the Buccaneers this season as well.

POSTGAME INTERVIEW: Mike Engler, Ryle

Ryle currently sits at an impressive 7-2 on their season and will have one more game next weekend to wrap up their season however, as the Buccaneers will host the visiting Dixie Heights.

Simon Kenton has struggled throughout the latter part of their schedule, and will look to end their season on a high note as they host Ashland Blazer next weekend.

#11 HIGHLANDS 63, SCOTT 14
Highlands continued it’s impressive season with yet another convincing victory over a district rival, rolling past Scott for a 63-14 victory, their ninth of the season.

The Bluebirds quickly shot out to a commanding 35-7 lead over the Eagles after just one quarter. With the running clock rolling shortly after, Highlands rolled out the backups and cruised to an additional 20 point lead.

Scott had no answers for the Highlands passing attack, quickly giving up long touchdown scores from the beginning of the contest right down to the very end. Despite the big loss, Scott was able to muster some decent offensive drives to put points up on the board, but there was no catching Highlands.

The Bluebirds capped off their season with another impressive win, and will now wait to see what the playoffs have in store for them. Meanwhile, Scott can rebound and finish their season off strong as they travel to Lloyd Memorial.

#14 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 49, MASON COUNTY 0
Since the mid-point of the season, Covington Catholic has played like the Colonels team we have all come to expect, rattling off six straight wins after starting off the year 1-2. This contest was no different, as CovCath ran all over Mason County, to the tune of seven rushing touchdowns by five different players.

Junior quarterback Cash Harney led the way on the ground for the Colonels, with 73 yards and 3 touchdowns on 7 attempts. Additionally, Tate Kruer, Sam Boyce, Owen Pitzer, and Andrew Bessler all had rushing touchdowns of their own. Harney also added 29 yards on 5 completions through the air.

The potent rushing attack was too much to handle for Mason County, who were only able to muster 132 total yards of offense, compared to Cov Cath’s 254. The Colonel’s defense was able to shut the rundown, holding the Royals to just 78 yards on the ground, in addition to forcing a fumble and three interceptions.
