Unbeaten Xenia survives at Troy
- Updated: October 5, 2024
TROY, Ohio – They looked the part of a championship-caliber team as Xenia went on the road and held off a dogged and determined Troy squad. The Buccaneers are 7-0 for the second time in the last three seasons.
A veteran Xenia squad came up big every time it had its back against the wall, on both sides of the ball. A balanced offensive attack saw four-year starter Gavin McManus go 14-15 for 160 yards and a touchdown. He connected with classmate Trimonde Henry (another four-year starter) nine times for 114 yards (both career highs) and that score, two minutes into the fourth quarter that gave the Bucs their biggest lead, 21-10.
Setting up those pass plays was the running of Deaunte White. The junior carried the ball 38 times for 204 yards and Xenia’s first two touchdowns. White now has 1,368 yards and 23 touchdowns rushing on the season.
Ronnie Butler was a stud on defense for Xenia with eight solo tackles, two tackles for losses and a big forced fumble and recovery. The senior has 30 solo tackles over the last three games.
Troy held Xenia to its lowest scoring output of the year. The Trojans won the time of possession battle by more than seven minutes. Quarterback Aiden Kirkpatrick led the ball control offense going 4-5 for 86 yards, two touchdowns and 87 yards rushing. As good as all that was, it was an untimely turnover and five costly penalties for 89 yards that kept the home team from pulling off the upset.
