- Updated: February 18, 2025

After 38 years and eight failed attempts, Batesville (9-4) found a way to make it rain and end its regional title drought. This past season, the Bulldogs captured the program’s second ever regional championship with the initial one coming back in 1986. Their efforts saw them be named the 2024 TriState Football Indiana Team of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana area’s high school gridiron at The TriState Football Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail, downtown Cincinnati.

Expectations were high after a 2023 campaign that saw Batesville go 11-2 and bring home the schools ninth sectional championship and first in eight years. The Bulldogs won their first four tilts to start 2024. The first three of those victories were all by less than a touchdown (three, one and five points). Then a rough stretch followed as Batesville lost three of the next four to rivals East Central, Lawrenceburg and Franklin County. All three defeats were by 11 points or more. The Bulldogs would stagger into the postseason at 6-3.
Batesville managed to get a first round playoff bye. The Bulldogs used that extra week to hone in on the task at hand. They avenged regular season losses to Franklin County and Lawrenceburg to capture the Class 3A, Sectional title. Hosting the regional championship proved to be beneficial as Batesville bested Tri-West, 41-37. In the state semifinals the Bulldogs would succumb to eventual state champion Heritage Hills, for a second straight year.
The Bulldogs went a combined 20-6 over the last two seasons. Those 20 victories are the most in a two year period for the school since it won 20 contests between 2001 and 2002.
Senior quarterback Will Jaisle and classmate Gage Pohlman rewrote the offensive record books at the school. Jaisle, a University of Notre Dame commit for baseball, ends his football career as Batesville’s all-time leader in passing yards with 5,271 and passing touchdowns with 62. Pohlman is the school’s all-time leading rusher with 4,016 yards.
Six Bulldogs were named to the 2024 All-EIAC Legends Team – Jaisle, Pohlman, Andrew Jones, Max Amberger, Damien Dance and Alex Krekeler. Pohlman was also named IFCA Class 3A Senior All-State. Jaisle was honored as the 2024 TriState Football Indiana Offensive Player of the Year and the EIAC Legends Offensive MVP. Head coach Evan Ulery raised his career record to 61-42 in his nine years at the helm.
This is the 15th year of this award and third time that Batesville has been named the TSF Indiana Team of the Year and first time since 2013.
