Dayton Round-Up: Week 1

ALTER 28, FAIRMONT 21

A wild ending saw Alter score 14 points in a span of nine seconds with under a minute to go to defeat Fairmont. The Knights snapped a four game skid against their Kettering rivals.

Quarterback Rod Owens Jr. ran for the game-tying touchdown with 41 seconds left in the contest. Nine seconds later linebacker Wyatt Reifschneider returned a JJ Hill fumble 30-yards for the game winning score.

Owens Jr. ran for 132 yards, threw for 72 yards and accounted for three touchdowns (two rush, one pass) for the victors. He also had five tackles. Firebirds senior Hill went 4-4 for 132 yards and two touchdowns passing. 

TIPPECANOE 21, BELLBROOK 0

Tippecanoe extended its regular season winning streak to 15 games, besting Bellbrook for a second straight year. It was the Red Devils fourth shutout during the streak.

Seniors Xavier Melton and Will Strong led the way for Tippecanoe. Melton ran for 117 yards and a touchdown. Strong caught six balls for 110 yards and a score. On defense, Bryton Otto tallied eight tackles (six solo), had a sack and 3.5 tackles for losses for the victors.

WINTON WOODS 21, SPRINGFIELD 14

Freshman Bo Diop ran for the game winning score with 19.8 seconds left as Winton Woods won a nail-biter over visiting Springfield. Warriors senior Nate Dawson (a Miami (OH) commit) recovered a fumble and had a pick-six for the victors.

Junior quarterback CJ Wallace threw a pair of second half touchdowns for Springfield but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 14-0 halftime deficit.
