Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 6

A crazy week has seen the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com seen many changes in the rankings. All four GCL South schools are entrenched in the top seven spots of the poll.

Week 6 features seven games between Top 25 teams in our rankings – No. 7 La Salle at No. 1 Moeller; No. 4 Elder at No. 2 Elder; No. 5 Princeton at No. 13 Mason; No. 8 Kings at No. 20 Lebanon; No. 14 Middletown at No. 17 Lakota West; No. 16 Fairfield at No. 18 Lakota East and No. 10 Taft at No. 19 Withrow on Saturday.

Here’s the Blitz 5 Top 25 for Week 6:

1. Moeller (4-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #1 St. Xavier (4-1, 0-1), 30-13. Head coach Bert Bathiany is now 5-0 versus St. Xavier. NEXT UP: 9/26 – #7 LA SALLE (4-1, 0-1), at Mount St. Joseph University.

2. St. Xavier (4-1, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #2 Moeller (4-1), 30-13. The Bombers have fallen to Moeller seven straight times. NEXT UP: 9/26 – ELDER (5-0).

3. Anderson (5-0, 4-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #7 Kings (4-1, 3-1), 49-24. The Raptors are averaging 491.6 yards of total offense per game. NEXT UP: 9/26 – MILFORD (1-4, 1-3).

4. Elder (5-0, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Louisville St. Xavier (KY) (3-1), 21-7. The Panthers have won three straight road games, giving two of those three victims their only loss of the season. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #2 St. Xavier (4-1, 0-1).

5. Princeton (4-1, 4-0) – LAST WEEK: beat LAKOTA EAST (3-2, 2-2), 42-7. The Vikings have allowed just 19 points during their current four-game winning streak after giving up 41 to Moeller in the opener. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #13 Mason (3-2, 3-1).

6. Highlands (4-1) – LAST WEEK: beat then #12 RYLE (2-3), 28-24. The Bluebirds are 2-1 in games decided by four points or less. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at Harrison County (1-4).

7. La Salle (4-1, 0-1)LAST WEEK: beat FAIRMONT(1-2), 24-23. The Lancers are in the midst of a six game stretch where they are facing five teams that have one loss or less. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #1 Moeller (4-1, 1-0), at Mount St. Joseph University.

8. Kings (4-1, 3-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #4 Anderson (5-0, 4-0), 49-24. The Knights have won eight consecutive regular season games. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #20 Lebanon (4-1, 3-1).

9. Winton Woods (4-1, 3-1) LAST WEEK: won at Walnut Hills (1-4, 0-4), 48-7. Senior quarterback Bryshawn Brown set the school record for career passing yards, now at 3,776. NEXT UP: 9/26 – LITTLE MIAMI (1-4, 1-3).

10. Taft (5-0) – LAST WEEK: Beat Thurgood Marshall (1-4), 51-0. The Senators have won their last two games by a combined 120-0. NEXT UP: 9/27 – at #19 Withrow (4-1).

11. Ryle (2-3) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #8 Highlands (4-1), 28-24. The Raiders have lost three games in a row by seven, seven and four points. NEXT UP: 9/26 – TATES CREEK (1-4).

12. Covington Catholic (3-2) – LAST WEEK: won at #24 Beechwood (3-1), 42-14. The Colonels are averaging 51.0 points during their current three-game winning streak. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at Central (2-3).

13. Mason (3-2, 3-1) LAST WEEK: won at then #22 Hamilton (1-4, 1-3), 28-21. Quarterback D’Lo Burch has run for 88 yards or more three times in the last four weeks. NEXT UP: 9/26 – PRINCETON (4-1, 4-0).

14. Middletown (5-0, 4-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Sycamore (0-5, 0-4), 62-0. Senior Jordan Vann has two punt returns and one kickoff return for touchdown in the last two games. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #17 Lakota West (2-3, 2-2).

15. Badin (5-0) LAST WEEK: beat BISHOP HARTLEY (3-2), 42-24. Quarterback Colt Emerson has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 14 consecutive games. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at Chaminade Julienne (0-5).

16. Fairfield (3-2, 2-2) LAST WEEK: beat then #6 LAKOTA WEST (2-3, 2-2), 10-7. The Indian are on a three-game winning streak for the first time since 2022. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #18 Lakota East (3-2, 2-2).

17. Lakota West (2-3, 2-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at then unranked Fairfield (3-2, 3-1), 10-7. For the first time since 2018 the Firebirds have lost three games before the start of October. NEXT UP: 9/26 – #14 MIDDLETOWN (5-0, 4-0).

18. Lakota East (3-2, 2-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #5 Princeton (4-1, 4-0), 42-7. The Thunderhawks haven’t beaten Princeton since 2020. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at #16 FAIRFIELD (3-2, 3-1).

19. Withrow (4-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #9 La Salle (4-1), 35-26. The Tigers are 10-2 in their last 12 games. NEXT UP: 9/27 – #10 TAFT (5-0). 

20. Lebanon (4-1, 3-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Little Miami (1-4, 1-3), 49-32. The Warriors have returned five interceptions for touchdowns. NEXT UP: 9/26 – #8 KINGS (4-1, 3-1).

21. East Central (4-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Batesville (3-2, 0-1), 45-0. Junior Colton Bellman has run for 229 and 261 yards with six total touchdowns over the past two games. NEXT UP: 9/26 – SOUTH DERABORN (4-1).

22. Cooper (2-3) – LAST WEEK: lost to DuPONT MANUAL (4-1), 59-24. The Jaguars have allowed 50-plus points twice in five contests. NEXT UP: 9/26 – CONNER (1-4).

23. Harrison (4-1) LAST WEEK: beat ROSS (2-3), 33-7. The Wildcats are averaging 213.4 yards per game rushing. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at CHCA (4-1).

24. Beechwood (3-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #13 COVINGTON CATHOLIC (3-2), 42-14. Tigers have their 13-game winning streak snapped. NEXT UP: 9/26 – OWEN COUNTY (2-2). 

25. Indian Hill (5-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat MARIEMONT (2-3, 0-2), 35-0. The Braves defense has held four of their five foes to seven points or less. NEXT UP: 9/26 – at Taylor (2-3, 1-2).
