East Central takes care of business with win over Batesville

BATESVILLE, IN – The East Central Trojans continued their dominance over Southeastern Indiana on Friday night, as they handled the hosting Batesville Bulldogs with ease, 45-0.

This rout marked the fifth-straight blowout victory over Batesville for the Trojans of East Central, who, over the past five contests, have defeated the Bulldogs by an average margin of 24 points.

Offense came easy for the Trojans from the onset of the game, as they jumped out to a quick two-score lead in the first half. Even though East Central was able to take control of the game early, it was not without some adversity, as Batesville sophomore defensive back Max Meyer was able to recover a fumble and give the Bulldogs some life on the defensive side of the ball.

The turnover was not enough, however, to overcome the Trojans’ mighty offense. Junior running back Colton Bellman was impressive once again on Friday night, while senior quarterback and team leader Nolan Maple was in full control of East Central’s offense – and the game – as he was able to find his favorite target, senior wideout Ethan Feldkamp, often.

While Bellman, Maple and Feldkamp are often the catalysts for a good offense for East Central, the unsung heroes of the contest resided on the offensive line; the five up front dominated for the Trojans, giving Bellman and his fellow backfield counterparts the room to run, and giving Maple time in the pocket to operate effectively and have yet another impressive night throwing the ball.

With this shutout, this marks the third game this season for the Trojans where the defense held their opponent to under 20 points, a winning recipe for the rest of the season. Like the offensive line, the East Central defensive line was dominant from the line of scrimmage, holding the Bulldogs offensive attack to minimal gains all night.
