No. 9 Lakota East delivered one of the biggest offensive performances of opening night, exploding for 41 first-half points on its way to a 41-14 victory over Centerville.
The Thunderhawks scored twice late in the first quarter and erupted for 27 more points in the second to take a commanding 41-14 advantage into halftime. Neither team scored after the break.
Quarterback Nile Knutson led the offensive explosion, completing 20-of-29 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Dailey added another touchdown pass while completing all three of his attempts for 42 yards as Lakota East finished with 310 yards and four scores through the air.
Carter Jones was Knutson’s favorite target, hauling in 11 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Braxton Thurman added six receptions for 95 yards and a score, while Braylen Taylor turned his lone catch into a 60-yard touchdown. Brayden Auguste contributed a receiving touchdown and led the ground attack with 63 yards and another score.
Lakota East finished with 387 total yards and 19 first downs while holding Centerville to 173 yards. The Thunderhawks also forced three turnovers in a dominant season-opening performance that backed up their No. 9 ranking in the Preseason Blitz 5 Top 25 powered by TriStateFootball.com.
