Cooper starts season off on wrong foot

In a highly-anticipated season opener for two squads that were state runners-up in 2024 – Anderson in Ohio and Cooper in Kentucky – the actual matchup fell flat, as the Raptors romped over the Cougars at Anderson.
The Raptors topped the 50-point threshold six times in 2024 on their way to the Ohio Division II state final.

Anderson junior quarterback Owen Scalf threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns. Classmate Jordan Davis also had a hat trick with three rushing scores on 14 totes for 101 yards. Cooper senior running back Keagan Maher carried the ball 26 times for 181 yards and a touchdowns.
#9 RYLE 26, #10 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 20
In a Top Ten matchup to kick off the Kentucky season, Ryle and Covington Catholic collided to open 2025, with the Raiders making it two in a row over CovCath with a hard-fought 26-20 victory.
Ryle senior Jake Savage, an Indiana commit, had eight tackles (seven solo) and ran for 82 yards and a pair of scores. Classmate Dylan Lee snared two interceptions and had a touchdown catch. Covington Catholic quarterback Cash Harney threw for 183 yards, ran for 145 yards and accounted for three touchdowns (two rush, one pass).
It makes it two years in a row – after beating the Colonels in 2024 for the first time in eight years – the Raiders took this rivalry game.
LLOYD 47, NEWPORT CATHOLIC CENTRAL 14
Lloyd’s nickname is the Juggernauts, and that’s what they were Friday night to open the 2025 season, jumping all over the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds by a score of 47-14.
The victory avenges the Juggernauts 2024 loss to NCCHS, 27-14.
