FAIRFIELD, Oh. – The #12 Fairfield Indians came into the 2026 season with their eyes set on competing for the Greater Miami Conference crown – a tall order given the competition such as defending conference champion #2 Princeton and defending regional champion #7 Middletown.
If Friday night is any indication, however, the Indians will definitely be in the mix, as Fairfield ended a three-game losing streak to the Wayne Warriors with a 35-25 victory Friday night.
The Indians won the game with defense, forcing seven turnovers, the first being a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Fairfield’s Tristan Nett, on the opening possession for Wayne, to make it a 7-0 game.
Wayne immediately tied the game on the ensuing kickoff, with wideout James Dyer IV returning the kick 95 yards to knot the game at 7-7. Dyer would put Wayne up just a few short minutes later, catching a 74-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kye Graham, to make it 14-7 Wayne.
But much like Dyer did with his kickoff return earlier in the game, Fairfield returned the favor, as the Indians’ Stone Butler returned the kick 90 yards to knot the game at 14 apiece. Butler also had two fumble recoveries on defense.
Fairfield would extend their lead to 35-17 halfway through the third quarter, thanks in part to more turnovers by the Wayne offense, and hold on for the win.
Corrious Booker carried the load on offense for the victors, The sophomore ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns on 21 totes. Defensively Kobe Lewis had a pair of sacks and Axsel Rogers recovered a fumble and recorded a sack for the Indians.
The Indians will host GMC rival #22 Oak Hills next week, while Wayne will host #6 St. Xavier.
