2016 Snapshot: Chaminade Julienne

Defections before the 2015 season started changed the course of Chaminade Julienne football drastically. Several seniors to-be who provided leadership and immeasurable game experience transferred out leaving Eagles head coach Marcus Colvin scrambling in a new direction. Last fall was supposed to be one of a potential playoff run instead it became one of growing pains for Colvin and his troops.

“We played lots of freshmen and sophomores last year so we will be young again. The positive is that our youth had great playing experience in 2015,” Colvin states.

Line play will be key for Chaminade Julienne. The Eagles struggled up front on both sides of the ball in ‘15. The offense averaged just 12.6 points per games. The defense was over matched up front against the Greater Catholic League Co-eds elite. They allowed more than 230 yards rushing per game. The Eagles were worn down by October dropping their last four tilts by an average margin of 40.25 points. “We’re still young. We need to develop a solid offensive line to ensure that we can move the ball consistently,” Colvin says.

For CJ fans all hope is not lost on this upcoming season. The Eagles have some exciting talent. Once they build some confidence they will be very dangerous. The hopes for Colvin and his staff is that this belief in themselves comes sooner rather than later.

Division V, Region 20
2015 RECORD: 2-8, 2-5 GCL Co-eds
COACH: Marcus Colvin (21-13 @ Chaminade Julienne, three years, 21-13 overall)

HONOR ROLL
Ryan Peltier, Jr, QB – The Eagles top returnee Peltier started all 10 games and threw for 628 yards as a sophomore. He was named Second Team All-GCL North for his efforts. Peltier has a tremendous upside.

OTHER RETURNEES
Jacquel Freeman-Parks, Sr, RB – This senior should eclipse the 1,000 yard mark after rushing for more than 800 yards a year ago.

Michael Fugate, Sr, TE/LB – After playing guard and defensive end as a junior Fugate will move tight end and linebacker. The position change will allow Colvin to use Fugate’s athleticism more effectively.

Keshaun Owens, Jr, DB – A starter since his freshman season all signs point to Owens having a breakout year. Look for him to be a factor in both sides of the ball.

Jake Kinnear, Sr, DB – Kinnear will make big contributions for the Eagles as a two-way player.

Noah Walusis, Sr, DB – Walusis is a team leader who is also an effective special teams member.

NEWCOMERS
Brendan Kadel, So, WR/DB – The sophomore will see time on both sides of the ball and could play himself into a starting role.

Colin Downing, So, WR/LB – With so many opportunities on both side of the ball Downing should find himself a spot in the starting lineup somewhere.

Daelyn Dawson, Jr, ATH – The transfer Dawson has a chance to make an immediate impact for the Eagles.

2016 SCHEDULE
The non-conference portion of the schedule is eccentric to say the least. The Division V Eagles open hosting Division VI defending state runner-ups and perennial playoff powerhouse Marion Local. Four CJ’s seven conference affairs are on the road at Bishop Fenwick, Roger Bacon, Badin and Alter.

OCTOBER BLUES
Over the last four seasons Chaminade Julienne is a combined 5-15 in games starting after October 1st. The Eagles are 14-7 in August and September contests during that same span.
