Best Bets: Cincinnati – Week 9

The big conferences in Cincinnati don’t have many key league matchups, but some of the smaller conferences sure do.

This week will have a huge impact in determining league champions.

TriStateFootball takes a look at the Best Bets for Cincinnati in Week 9.

Bethel-Tate (5-2) at Williamsburg (6-2), 7 p.m. – Bethel-Tate has gotten it done with its running game, led by Steven Cooper’s 836 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The Tigers have won three straight games, outscoring their opponents, 137-26 in that span. Williamsburg also has three consecutive victories in which it has racked up 130 points. The Wildcats also have a run-dominated offense, as Kurt Meisberger and Spencer Clowney have both rushed for over 800 yards.

Cincinnati Country Day (8-0) at CHCA (7-1), 7 p.m. – Both teams are 3-0 in the MVC Scarlet entering their final league game. Cincinnati Country Day has scored at least 35 points in seven of its games, averaging 38.5 points per game and just 14.6 against. CCD has a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Darryn Jordan and Nick Sam. CHCA has the only other four-figure rusher in the MVC in Johnny Noyen. Noyen also leads the conference in passing yards with 1,053. The team is scoring 42.4 points per game and has rolled up at least 34 in each of its wins.

Glen Este (7-1) at Kings (7-1), 7 p.m. – These teams are both 4-1 in the ECC, one game behind Turpin. Glen Este has outscored its foes, 127-14 during its current three-game winning streak. QB Tyler Pilcher has now thrown for 2,098 yards, tops in the conference, and Robby Boone is second in the league in rushing yards (1,150). Kings is second in the ECC with a 17.8 points-allowed average. The Knights also have a strong passer and rusher, as Tyler Knecht has thrown for 1,435 yards and Luke Bohenek has 1,148 ground yards.

Harrison (5-3) at Northwest (6-2), 7 p.m. – Harrison and Northwest are tied for third in the SWOC at 3-1 in league play, and Mount Healthy and Edgewood play each other for first this week. QB Mitchell Hogue has thrown for a conference-high 1,283 yards, and he has rushed for a TD in five straight games while throwing for one in four in a row. The Knights’ Devonte Faulkner leads all SWOC running backs with 888 ground yards.

Mount Healthy (5-3) at Edgewood (7-1), 7 p.m. – The game pits the top two teams in the SWOC – both are 4-0 in conference play. Mount Healthy has three losses, but they are by eight, one and two points. QB David Montgomery easily leads the conference in rushing yards, as he is well into four figures. Edgewood has lost one game this season – that was a 28-point defeat vs. Badin. Drew Reckart is second in the conference in passing yards (1,223).

Winton Woods (5-2) at La Salle (7-1), 7 p.m. – After losing to Mason, 41-27, Winton Woods has won four games in a row, including a 14-0 victory over Elder last week. Jalen Lumpkin is closing in on 1,000 yards for the Warriors, as he needs 124 to reach that milestone. La Salle’s only loss this season was two weeks ago vs. St. Xavier, and the Lancers bounced back from that with a 42-20 win over St. Charles. RB Jeremy Larkin leads the GCL South in rushing yards (971).

Wyoming (7-1) at Reading (8-0), 7 p.m. – Wyoming is 4-1 in the CHL and Reading is tied with Indian Hill at 5-0, and the Blue Devils wrap up their season against Indian Hill next week. The Cowboys have allowed just 66 points all season, and no team has scored more than 14 points vs. Wyoming. Opponents are averaging just 140 yards vs. Wyoming. Reading’s Neriah Brooks and Baden Pinson have combined for over 1,200 rushing yards.

DePaul Catholic (N.J.) (2-4) at Elder (5-3), 7 p.m. – DePaul Catholic plays in the same conference as Don Bosco Prep. Kareem Walker has 671 rushing yards to lead the Big North United Division. Elder has lost its last two games, 49-42 to Moeller and 14-0 vs. Winton Woods following its overtime win over St. Xavier. Peyton Ramsey leads to GCL South in passing yards (1,806), and Nick Hall is tops in the conference in receiving (775 yards).

Moeller (4-4) at Lakewood St. Edward (7-1), Saturday, 4 p.m. – Moeller’s last four games have been decided by one possession. The Crusaders have won their last two, 49-42 at Elder and 55-52 at Cleveland St. Ignatius. Despite their recent scoring spike, the Crusaders are last in the GCL South in scoring (24.4 points per game). St. Edwards enters this weekend on a five-game winning streak, and its only loss this season was to St. Joseph Regional (N.J.) by two.

St. Xavier (5-3) at Cleveland St. Ignatius (4-3), Saturday, 2 p.m. – St. Xavier is allowing just 14.0 points per game, tops in the GCL South. The Bombers lost to Warren Central (Ind.), 28-21 last week, the fourth straight game it has been played in that was decided by one score. St. Ignatius lost to Moeller, 55-52 last week and is uncharacteristically ranked 23rd in Region 1.
