Best Bets: Dayton – Week 8
- Updated: October 13, 2015
The time has come for several teams to step up and make a statement. There are those who need to notch big victories in order to earn the respect of their peers. The jury is still out on some squads who take center stage this Friday night. Here is a look at this week’s Best Bets in and around the Dayton area.
Beavercreek (6-1, 2-0) at Centerville (4-3, 2-0) – The winner controls its own destiny in the quest for a GWOC Central title. Both teams still have undefeated Wayne left on the schedule. Centerville quarterback Jacob Harrison is on fire. He has ran and thrown for more than 140 yards in each of the Elks last two tilts. Harrison’s favorite target, Nate Richmond has had more than 100 yards receiving in three of the last four games. Beavercreek can ill-afford to get down to a Centerville team that has not scored less than 32 points in a contest this season. The Battlin’ Beavers have not thrown for more than 59 yards in a game.
Piqua (4-3, 1-1) at Trotwood-Madison (5-2, 1-1) – An angry Trotwood-Madison team hits the field after a sub-par performance in a loss to Troy. The Rams have to start cherishing the football. They have turned the ball over 11 times over the last four weeks. All three of Piqua’s losses have been by eight points or less. The Indians have to do a better job of closing out games if they want to take their game to the next level.
Stebbins (6-1, 1-1) at Tippecanoe (6-1, 1-1) – The surprising Stebbins Indians haven’t given up more than 17 points a game. They will need another Herculean effort versus a Tippecanoe squad that is averaging 41.3 points per contest. This is a chance for Stebbins to prove that they are for real. The Indians have yet to beat a team with a winning record. They are sitting at No. 11 in the Division II, Region 6 Harbin Rankings with an uphill battle in order to get into the post-season. The game will feature three of the CBC’s top four rushers – 1. Mason Dyer (1,176), 4. David Hickey (767) from Stebbins and 3. Jakob Prall (793) from Tipp. Expect a quick moving game.
Franklin (5-2, 3-0) at Monroe (4-3, 3-1) – Franklin still has a shot at the SWBL Southwestern crown. The Wildcats have won four in a row. Three of those victories have been by eight points or less. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Montgomery is coming off the best game of his young career. Franklin needs him to continue that elevated level of play if they want to be successful in November. Monroe is looking for more consistency. The Fighting Hornets have given up just 12 points in their four victories. They have been outscored by an average of 20 points per contest in their four losses.
McNicholas (3-4, 2-2) at Alter (6-1, 3-1) @ Franklin H.S. – This is the last chance for McNicholas to turn its season around. The Rockets are in desperate need of a quality win. Division III, Region 10 has a lot of question marks entering the last three games of the year and McNick needs to capitalize on this opportunity. Alter is rolling but must be wary of a letdown after last week’s big win over Badin. The Knights defense is playing well and if they can keep McNicholas to two touchdowns or less you have to like their chances to win a fourth straight game.
