CovCath pulls away from Anderson

It was just a six-point game at halftime, but Covington Catholic scored five second-half touchdowns to blow open a 47-21 win over Anderson County on Friday.
The score was tied at seven when Colonels QB A.J. Mayer ran in a 2-yard score with four minutes left in the second quarter to put his team ahead for good.
In a six-plus minute window of the third quarter, CovCath ran up 20 points on a 9-yard run by Anthony Best and dashes of 31 and 45 yards by Mayer.
Casey McGinness broke TD runs of 45 and 48 yards in the fourth quarter to seal it for the Colonels.
CovCath rushed for 379 yards and threw for 147, a total of 526 yards of offense. The Colonels held Anderson County to minus-39 ground yards and 158 in the air for 119 overall.
Three CovCath players rushed for over 100 yards – McGinness (136 and two TDs), Best (120 and two TDs), and Mayer (109 and three TDs).
The Colonels will travel to Madison Southern next week.
