Evans is Turpin’s Terminator
- Updated: March 18, 2016
“He’ll find you! That’s what he does! That’s ALL he does! You can’t stop him! He’ll wade through you….,” he’s Lang Evans the Terminator of Turpin High School. The quoted words are used to describe Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in the original Terminator movie and they are ever so fitting for Spartans linebacker Evans who has is forging a path of destruction on Bartels Road.
In 2015, Evans was a terror recording 147 total tackles (94 solo), forcing three fumbles, recovering a fumble and intercepting three passes as a junior. Accolades poured in as he was named Eastern Cincinnati Conference, Division II Special Mention All-Ohio, First Team All-Southwest District and TriStateFootball.com Cincinnati Defensive Player of the Year Finalist for his efforts. Evans also set the Turpin school record for career tackles.
It’s a relentless tenacity that sets Evans apart from his peers. “He has a motor that is always going full throttle. He’s hard to block because he’s explosive and strong. His in game intensity is awesome,” Turpin Head Coach Rob Stoll says about his star Spartan. “Lang’s potentially the best defensive player EVER to play at Turpin.”
Off the field Evans sets the example for others to follow. “Lang’s work ethic and leadership is outstanding. Proof is in the pudding: he has 100% attendance record in the weight room and we lift four days a week. He benches 345 pounds, squats 500, deadlifts 500+ and can power clean 275+. He runs a 4.5 40-yard dash. Those are outcomes of his work and his most important asset – his drive. He’s driven to be the best, like no other player I have coached,” Stoll states.
After a pair of 4-6 campaigns Turpin broke out of its funk finishing at 10-2 and reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2012 last fall. The Spartans defense allowed just 15.5 points per contest. On 10 occasions Turpin held foes to 17 points or less. Evans was creating havoc all over the field and the entire unit was benefiting as the team recorded 24 sack and came up with 28 turnovers on the season.
“We are more versatile because of Lang. He can drop into pass coverage as well as he can blitz.Lang is an incredible pass rusher. He obviously gets attention from opponents which helps his teammates as well,” Stoll says.
Back for his fourth season as a starter it’s scary to think how good Evans senior year could be with his commitment to succeeding. One thing is certain he is going to leave a path of destruction through opposing offenses as Turpin is poised for another postseason run. Evans still has some finishing touches to put on his legacy expect them to be very resounding.
