Schedule Sneak Peek: Winton Woods
- Updated: March 2, 2016
Not being in a conference presents scheduling drawbacks and often means you have to square off against some pretty outstanding teams. Division II independent, Winton Woods has dealt with this for several years and will find itself playing one of its most grueling schedules in school history in 2016.
In back-to-back weeks to end September the Warriors will face reigning two-time Ohio Division II state champion La Salle and 2015 Indiana Class 3A state champ, Bishop Chatard. Winton Woods will play nine squads from the Buckeye state of which eight made the playoffs last fall. Seven of those teams won their first round postseason tilts including a pair of Division III Regional runner-ups in Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and Jackson. The combined ’15 record of the Warriors opponents was 90-34 for a .726 winning percentage.
Here is a look at the 2016 Winton Woods schedule:
Fri – 08/26/16 – @Northmont – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/02/16 – GLEN ESTE – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/09/16 – SPRINGBORO – 7:00PM
Fri – 09/16/16 – @Start – 7:00PM
Fri – 09/23/16 – LA SALLE – 7:00PM
Fri – 09/30/16 – BISHOP CHATARD – 7:00PM
Fri – 10/07/16 – @St. Vincent-St. Mary – 7:00PM
Fri – 10/14/16 – @Elder – 7:00PM
Sat – 10/22/16 – @Jackson – 7:00PM
Fri – 10/28/16 – BISHOP WATTERSON – 7:00PM
FINAL TAKE: The Warriors had a run of eight playoff appearances in nine years from 2005-13 including winning the Division II state title in ’09. Winton Woods will need a gargantuan effort to avoid missing the postseason for the third straight season. There will be plenty of opportunities for the Warriors to prove themselves. They truly will control their own destiny.
