Munford leaves La Salle
- Updated: April 29, 2016
Offensive lineman Thayer Munford will not be pursuing a third straight Ohio Division II state title with La Salle as a senior in 2016. Lancers head coach Jim Hilvert informed TriStateFootball.com of Munford’s departure in his 2016 Team/Coach Form that he submitted to TSF.
Munford has transferred to Massillon Washington. He is reunited with his former head coach at La Salle, Nate Moore. The duo is on a quest to win their second state championship in the last three years and resurrect the Tigers reign on the gridiron.
The move happened somewhat recently as right around the first of April Munford’s Twitter account starts transitioning to favor Massillon Washington content and away from La Salle. It came without much fanfare as to why, from the jovial youngster.
The 6-foot-6, 335 pound Munford is one of the most highly recruited linemen in the state with offers that include Bowling Green, Buffalo, Illinois, Iowa State, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Ohio & Purdue. Munford was a two-time Division II Third Team All-Ohio selection at La Salle.
Hilvert also told TSF that K/P Paul Young has transferred in and will kick for La Salle as a senior. Young was named Division III First Team All-Southwest District and Special Mention All-Ohio last fall for Ross. He has connected on 60/63 extra points and 15/21 field goals in his career. His presence will fill a huge void in the Lancers kicking game left by Ohio State-bound Dru Chrismann.
