Best Bets: Cincinnati – Week 2

Weather delays forced many Friday games to be played on Saturday last week, but better weather is expected for this weekend.
This week’s slate features Colerain vs. St. Xavier and McNicholas vs. Anderson – a pair of matchups that were decided by three points when those teams met in 2015.
Here are the Best Bets for Week 2 of prep football in Ohio:
Colerain (1-0) at St. Xavier (0-1), 7 p.m. – What a matchup this has been in recent years. And speaking of quality games, the Cardinals edged Warren Central, 31-28 in its opener last week, as Monalo Caldwell ran in the winning touchdown with 1:01 left in regulation.

The Bombers were blanked by California power St. John Bosco Prep, 34-0 and was outgained, 509-149. Colerain won, 13-10 on an overtime field goal when these teams hooked up last year, and the Cardinals won another three-point affair in 2012.
McNicholas (0-1) at Anderson (1-0), 7 p.m. – McNicholas beat Anderson by three points last year, 24-21. However, the Rockets were beaten soundly by Turpin, 27-6 last week as they were held to minus-9 yards rushing. Anderson beat Fenwick in a crazy opening contest, 42-41 after finishing 1-9 last year.
Lakota West (0-1) at Centerville (0-1), 7 p.m. – Lakota West was clobbered by Moeller, 47-14 while Centerville lost to Fairfield, 13-6. West had little success running the ball in its opener, averaging 2.6 yards per carry, and it also gave up 9.8 yards per pass attempt. The Elks also struggled on the ground, gaining just six yards.
Turpin (1-0) at Clinton Massie (1-0), 7:30 p.m. – Turpin jumped out to a 27-point lead against McNicholas last week before allowing a late touchdown in a 27-6 win. Clinton-Massie also opened the year with a win, 33-29.
East Central (2-0) at La Salle (1-0), 7 p.m. – La Salle holds a 7-2 advantage dating back to 1987 and won last year, 43-20 when these teams met. East Central is doing the Ohio/Kentucky-opponent thing, as it has beaten Campbell County, 21-7 and Harrison, 17-14. The Lancers needed overtime to beat Sycamore, 38-35 last week, winning on a 19-yard field goal by Paul Young after La Salle had tied the score with a minute left on a Tresean Smith rushing touchdown.
Glen Este (0-1) at Winton Woods (0-1), 7 p.m. – A pair of teams face off after losing by multiple-score deficits. Glen Este was routed in Week 1, falling 35-7 and only scoring a four-quarter touchdown after falling behind by 35. Winton Woods dropped its first game of the season, 32-23.
