Big first half lifts Madeira

A 21-point second quarter by Madeira that included a touchdown on the final play of the half keyed the Mustangs to a 42-28 win over Reading on Friday.

Greg Corn scored 44 seconds into the game to give Madeira the early lead.

After the Blue Devils tied it later in the quarter, Mustangs QB Jacob Bellayuto threw touchdown passes to Jack Cravaack and Adam Wieczorek to make it 21-7.

Reading scored to cut the lead to seven, but Bellayuto ran in a 4-yard TD, and Corn took in a 2-yard rush with no time remaining in the half to give Madeira a 35-14 lead.

Bellayuto was 9 of 13 for 204 yards and two scores, and he added 56 ground yards and a pair of TDs. Wieczorek caught five passes for a team-best 110 yards, and Cravaack added three receptions for 91 yards.

Alex Wachendorf paced the Blue Devils with five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. QB Tyler Bridges went 15-for-25 for 223 yards and four scores.

Madeira travels to Deer Park next week while Reading hosts Finneytown.
