Colerain holds on to beat St. X
- Updated: September 3, 2016

St. Xavier was hoping to avoid an 0-2 start to their season after falling to St. John Bosco (CA) last week 34-0, but it seemed like Colerain had other plans.
The two teams were deadlocked throughout the entire first quarter and started the second tied 0-0, but that’s when the Cardinals gained momentum and scored twice on two TD passes by QB Gunnar Leyendecker.
St. X was able to tie it up at 14 and send the game into overtime. However, after a missed field goal by St. X to start OT, Leyendecker was able to run in the game winning touchdown to give Colerain the 20-14 victory over the Bombers.
Leyendecker lead his team with 157 passing yards and 55 rushing yards, while St. X QB Chase Wolf lead his team with just 71 passing yards along with 2 passing touchdowns and two interceptions.
Linebacker Dan Bolden also came up big for the Cardinals with 11 total tackles and an interception in a game that was fueled by defense.
St. X (0-2) plays at Mentor (1-0) next Friday, and Colerain (2-0) seeks to stay undefeated as they take on La Salle (2-0) at home.
