- Updated: September 2, 2016
David Reisiger caught a 5-yard pass from A.J. Mayer, and Matthew Kloska knocked the extra point through as Covington Catholic edged Sycamore, 34-33 in overtime on Friday.
The Colonels had built a 20-6 lead in the first half, but the Aviators rallied with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to tie it.
Mayer ran in a 1-yard score late in the third quarter as CovCath regained the lead, but Sycamore again evened it on Ravon Bonner’s third TD run of the night.
The Aviators score on their possession in overtime. It was Bonner again from two yards out, but Sycamore’s extra point was blocked, setting up the Colonels’ heroics.
Mayer threw for 203 yards and a touchdown. Bonner gained 177 yards and four times.
Sycamore, which is 0-2 with a pair of OT losses, will travel to Fairmont next week while CovCath hosts Lexington Catholic.
