Roundup: Dayton – Week 2

There are more questions than answers after two weeks of football in the Dayton area after two weeks of football. Very few teams have started out of the gate at 2-0. Several of those squads that are unblemished are real surprises – Troy, Beavercreek, Franklin and Dunbar head that list. Week 3 promises to be filled with fireworks as teams look to build a case for a playoff berth. Next weekend is critical to say the least.

Beavercreek 14, Carroll – Defense stole the show as Beavercreek (2-0) shutout Carroll (1-1). The Battlin’ Beavers held the Patriots to 49 yards of total offense including -14 rushing on 20 carries. Linebacker Jack Knipper led the team with six solo tackles, a sack and an interception. Beavercreek quarterback Cody Hocker paced the offense with 132 yards on the ground and a score. Next Friday the Beavers will look to go 3-0 for a second straight year when they take on Fairborn (0-2).

Trotwood-Madison 38, Piqua 6 – It was a huge bounce back win after a subpar opener for Trotwood-Madison (1-1). The Rams defense shutdown a bullish Piqua (1-1) rushing attack allowing just 29 yards on 27 carries. They held the Indians to just 1-14 on third and fourth down conversions in this pivotal Division III, Region 12 affair. Raveion Hargrove ran for three second half touchdowns and finished with 118 yards rushing for Trotwood-Madison.

Lebanon 45, Loveland 34 – Lebanon (1-1) broke open a tie game outscoring Loveland (0-2) 17-6 in the final 16 minutes. Dawson Wolf, Dakota Allen and Zach Barsala all found the end zone twice for the winners. Allen finished with 248 yards and the two touchdowns passes to Barsala as well as his two running scores. Wolf ran for 120 yards while Barsala reeled in eight receptions for 89 yards. Luke Waddell racked up 219 yards on offense (150 rushing) for Loveland.

Not a Promising GWOC American South Start – The newly reshaped divisions in the Grater Western Ohio Conference has seen its American South division get off to a bumpy beginning. The division is a combined 2-8 thus far.

Sidney Suffering Close Losses – It is already turning into a season of heartbreak for Sidney. In what was supposed to be a breakout campaign for program has seen the Yellow Jackets fall in both their games by four and six points.

A Rough Friday for the SWOPL – All seven of the Southwest Ohio Public League schools that were in action on Friday lost in non-conference affairs. Dunbar is the only team in the league that is currently 2-0 with Gamble Montessori trying to match that feat with a win Saturday over Lockland.

Franklin 27, Edgewood 21 – Franklin (2-0) won a thriller at Edgewood (1-1) on Friday night. It was the first time in 25 years that the Wildcats had won at Kumler Field. Franklin was led by running back Bailee Moore who ran for 109 yards and a pair of scores. Quarterback Ryan Montgomery chipped in with 103 yards and a touchdown on the ground. They have now their first two games by three and six points.

All is Equal in the CBC Kenton Trail – After two games all five Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail teams stand at 1-1. Bellefontaine was the only division member to win Week 2.

No Fake, It’s Indian Lake – in the CBC Mad River division Indian Lake has picked up where it left last season off with two victories. They have outscored their opponents by a combined 84-3 margin. The Lakers have now won seven consecutive regular season games dating back to last year.
