Roundup: Dayton – Week 3

There is so much to get to as Week 3 was action packed across the Miami Valley. The non-conference portion of the schedule is winding down but not without its thrills and statements from those seeking to pull away from their peers. There are those who have not capitalized on opportunities leaving many with playoff hopes hanging by a thread and with no margin of error if they want to still be playing in November.

Statement W’s: Along with Valley View’s taking down of Madison Senior there were some other teams who made statements with their wins on Friday night. Troy remained unbeaten coming from behind to beat a very good Bellefontaine squad, 41-36. Springboro warded off an aerial assault from Winton Woods.

The ‘Burg has Big 10 Ground Game: Miamisburg (3-0) is plowing through teams on the ground. The Vikings are averaging 312.3 yards rushing and 10.4 yards per carry on the season. In Friday night’s win over Thurgood Marshall, eight players had runs of 10 yards or more. On the year 10 players have run for touchdowns. In just 91 carries the Vikings have found the end zone 16 times (once every 5.7/carries).

What a Wonderful Wildcat: Danny Davis amassed 250 all-purpose yards for a seventh straight game as Springfield triumphed over Lima Senior. Davis ran for 278 yards, had another 100 yards on returns and found the end zone twice as the Wildcats improved to 2-1.

Take a Bow-ser: Sidney junior running back Isaiah Bowser is as hot as any player in Southwest Ohio. The Yellow Jackets runner pounded Carroll defenders on Friday night with 262 yards on 21 carries and five touchdowns as Sidney picked up its first victory. Bowser ran for 281 yards the week before against Bellefontaine. He has 654 yards on the ground and 11 total touchdowns on the season.

A Room with a Valley View: For the third time in the last four years Valley View has started 3-0. The Spartans ended Madison Senior’s seven game win streak with a resounding 41-10 victory over the Mohawks.

On the Track at Belmont: Three Belmont backs are averaging more than 100 yards rushing per game heading into Saturday night’s game against Liberty Union – Elijah Malcom (238 yards-4 TDs); Dawson Martin (235-3); Dorrick Conner (224-2).

Oh, No-and-Three: The start to 2016 hasn’t been kind to several squads who are still winless. The following teams are sitting at 0-3. In the GWOC – Fairborn, Xenia and Fairmont; SWBL – Oakwood, Waynesville and Monroe; CBC – Greenon, Graham and Springfield Northwestern; SOPL – Meadowdale and Thurgood Marshall; GCL Co-eds – Bishop Fenwick.

Kenton Trail Doesn’t Lead to End Zone: Every team in the CBC Kenton Trail division is sitting at 1-2 two after three contests. Bellefontaine is the only team in the division averaging more than 15 points per game.
