Dixie runs all over Highlands

Jose Torres rushed 22 times for 241 yards and three touchdowns as Dixie Heights rushed for over 500 yards en route to beating Highlands, 40-20 on Friday.
The Bluebirds took the lead twice in the first quarter, 7-0 and 14-7, but the Colonels tied it late in the first quarter.
Torres put Highlands ahead for good on a 24-yard TD run early in the second quarter, and Dixie Heights went up by 14 on a 70-yard run by Cameron Barrett.
The Bluebirds cut the lead to eight in the third quarter, but Torres and Cameron Barker both found the end zone to cap off the scoring for the Colonels.
Barrett finished with 178 ground yards and Barker 89 as Dixie Heights rushed for 545 of its 565 total yards.
Brady Gosney threw for 233 yards and three TDs on 17 of 33 passing to pace Highlands, and his top target, Braden Posey, caught seven passes for 96 yards and one score.
This was these teams’ district opener. The Colonels will host Grant County next Thursday while Highlands faces CovCath at home.
