Elder tops Moeller on late TD
- Updated: October 7, 2016
Danny Falliace caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Danny Nieman with 3:22 left to lift Elder to a 30-28 win over Moeller on Friday.
The Panthers improved to 1-1 in the GCL South and will face La Salle the final week of the season for a share of the league title. The Crusaders finished 0-3 in league play.
Moeller led, 14-7 before Nieman connected with Adam Schwallie for a 13-yard TD with 6:25 left in the first half, and Elder took the lead with 31 seconds remaining in the second quarter on a Falliace 20-yard TD reception.
The Panthers extended their lead to 10 on a short field goal, but Moeller came charging back with a pair of scores just 15 seconds apart early in the fourth quarter.
The Crusaders actually finished with the yardage edge, 355-308, including 178 on the ground.
Nieman was 23 of 33 for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Falliace only caught four passes for 45 yards, but he scored two critical touchdowns.
Kyle Trischler led Elder in catches (12) and yards (109), and Schwallie had seven receptions for 99 yards. Both had a TD.
Moeller’s Colin Thurman led all rushers with 104 yards on 25 carries, and he scored once.
The Panthers will host Winton Woods next week while the Crusaders face Cleveland St. Ignatius at Otterbein University.
