Franklin comes up big in DIII
- Updated: November 16, 2016
It was one of the more memorable season in Franklin football history. The Wildcats finished the regular season 10-0, grabbed the No 1 seed in the Region 12 playoffs and posted a school record 11 victories. For that effort Brad Childers was named Southwest District coach of the year. His prized pupil, Ryan Montgomery was named the Southwest District offensive player of the year.
Montgomery was out of this world good. The junior threw for 397 yards with three scoring strikes, ran for 1,609 yards, caught 27 passes for 426 yards, amassed 2,348 all-purpose yards, had three games of 260 or more yards rushing three times in the last six Franklin games and scored 33 touchdowns (30 rushing) during the regular season. His teammates, Noah Kremer and Trenten Scott join him as first team All-District members.
New Richmond linebacker Jacob Cyrus the school’s all-time leader in tackles was named the District’s defensive player of the year. Cyrus led the Lions to one of its best defensive performances the program has ever had and he did all playing on a torn ACL all season long.
