2016 All-NKY Team
- Updated: December 7, 2016
It was a very good year for Class 2A Holy Cross making it all the way to the final four. A large part of the Indians success was the play of Derrick Barnes. The senior’s efforts earned him First Team All-Northern Kentucky (NKY) honors at the running back and linebacker positions as voted upon by the Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association (NKFCA).
Barnes was a one man wrecking crew in all phases of the games with 22 rushing touchdowns, a kickoff return for score, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and two pick sixes. He finished the year with 1,567 yards on the ground, averaged 10.4 per carry, had 1,979 all-purpose yards, recorded 126 total tackles (90 solo), with three sacks, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions. The 6-foot-3, 245 pound Barnes has verbally committed to Toledo.
Also securing two First Team spots were Cooper’s, Sander Rocksvag on the offensive and defensive lines. Trent Wrobleski of Newport Central Catholic earned top spots at wide receiver and punter.
Here is a look at the 2016 All-NKY Team as voted on by the (NKFCA).
